road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks.

The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 9.6, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures and right shoulder closures as needed for bridge repair over Route 600 and Johnsons Creek. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion March 31, 2014.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, repairing guardrail markers, cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches. Lane closures as needed for pothole patching and cleaning bridge decks. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 159 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 220 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Shoulder repairs, pothole repairs and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 600 – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for I-64 bridge repairs over Route 600 and Johnsons Creek.Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion May 30, 2014.

Route 606 (Sioux Street, Clifton Forge) – Right shoulder closure with intermittent flagging as needed for box culvert construction work under I-64.  Estimated completion June 15, 2015.

(NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming.  Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Shoulder repairs, pothole repairs and grading with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Shoulder repairs and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs with a mobile operation.Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 687 – Flagger traffic control at various locations for bridge work over the Cowardin Run. Work zone is 0.45 mile north of Route 618 to 0.55 miles north of Route 618.  Estimated completion Sept. 24, 2014.

Various roads – Brush cutting and shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs with a mobile operation.Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris and cleaning paved ditches. Lane closures as needed for pothole patching and cleaning bridge decks. Monday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 51.4 to 55.2 eastbound and mile marker 56.7 to 53.6 westbound  –

Left lane closures for preliminary construction work, March 24 to 28, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., as part of the Maury River Bridge rehabilitation project.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning bridge slopes and ditches, repairing mile marker and guardrail marker signs.  Lane closures as needed for pothole patching. Monday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 185 to 190, northbound and southbound – Brush cutting with shoulder closures during daylight hours.Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Mile marker 195 to 201, northbound – Right and center lane closures are scheduled for April 7 through the morning of April 12, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night. These closures are for paving work on the Truck Climbing Lane project. All work is weather permitting.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Brush cutting, pipe replacement, shoulder repairs, ditch cleaning and tree removal with flagger traffic control. Trash pickup with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Brush cutting, pipe replacement, shoulder repairs, ditch cleaning and tree removal with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs, trash pickup and grading with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 250 – Brush cutting at various locations with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 618 (Kester Hollow) –Tree trimming at various locations with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various roads – Sweeping in the Town of Monterey with a mobile operation. Pothole repairs, patching and brush cutting with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Exit 87, westbound – Shoulder closure for bridge work at I-81. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion May 30, 2014.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 89 to 93, eastbound and westbound – March 20 and 21 nighttime closures for crews to bring new bridge beams over I-64 as part of the reconstruction of Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road, Fishersville area). On the night of March 20, eastbound traffic will be diverted off I-64 at exit 91 to ramps around the bridge work zone, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Route 285 at the bride will be closed for several 15-minute intervals throughout the night for beam placement work. On the night of March 21, westbound traffic will be diverted off I-64 at exit 91 to ramps around the bridge work zone, 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. No closures on Route 285 are scheduled for the March 21 closure.  Motorist should be alert for potential delays on Route 285 both nights due to rerouted I-64 traffic.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, repairing mile marker and guardrail marker signs, cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches. Lane closures as need for pothole patching.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 219 to 217, southbound – Right lane closure for pavement work, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completionJuly 15, 2015.

Exit 221, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closure for bridge work. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion May 30, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 (Lee-Jackson Highway, Greenville) – Flagger controlled single lane traffic from Route 657 (Indian Ridge Road) to Route 1202 (Church Street) for sewer line work. March 20 to 24. This traffic pattern will remain in place 24 hours a day during this period. Be alert for project related work on Stover School Road, View Street, Palmer Street, Pen Apple Lane, Graham Street, Banner Street and Main Street, as needed until completion of project, estimated for April 12, 2014.

Route 252 – Pavement work, shoulder stone placement and line marking from the Rockbridge/Augusta Co. line to Route 603. Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion  April 30, 2014.

Route 252 – Pavement work, shoulder stone placement and line marking from Route 701 to Route 693. Monday toSaturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion April 30, 2014.

Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) – Intersection work from Route 654 to Route 831. Alternating lane closures with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion Aug. 6, 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 657 (Indian Ridge Road) – Intersection work from Route 340 to 0.15 mile south. Alternating lane closures with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion Aug. 6, 2014.

(UPDATE) Route 662 (Stover School Road) – Possible single lane closure from Route 11 to Route 916 (View Street) for seeding work as part of the sewer project. Estimated completion April 12, 2014.

Route 733 (Moffett Brand Road) – Bridge closure over Elk Run, located 0.6 mile north of Route 734 (Hupman Road) near Churchville.  A temporary replacement bridge is scheduled to open by April 15, 2014, weather permitting.  Detours until the temporary bridge is open:  Southbound traffic will detour west onto Route 835 (Dudley Farm Road), south on Route 736 (Union Church Road) and east on Route 734 to Route 733.  Northbound traffic will detour west on Route 734, north on Route 736 and east on Route 835 to Route 733. 

(UPDATE) Route 916 (View Street) – Possible single closure from Route 662 (Stover School Road) south for seeding work as part of the sewer project. Estimated completion April 12, 2014.

(UPDATE) Route 1201 (Palmer Street) – Possible single lane closure from Route 662 (Stover School Road) to Route 1201 (Graham Street) for seeding work as part of sewer project. Estimated completion April 12, 2014.

(UPDATE) Pen Apple Lane – Possible single lane closure from Route 1205 (Main Street) to Route 11 for sewer project work. Estimated completion April 12, 2014.

(UPDATE) Route 1201 Banner Road – Possible single lane closure from Route 1205 (Main Street) to Route 11for seeding work as part of sewer project. Estimated completion April 12, 2014.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal and pothole repairs as needed.Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 704 (Oakwood Drive – Bridgewater area) – Periodic flagging for construction work on temporary bridge being built over Cooks Creek. Work zone from 0.70 mil west of Route 712 to 0.58 mile west of route 712. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2014.

Route 726 (Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue) – New road construction to extend Southeast Connector in county. Shoulder closures controlled by signs. Possible lane closures controlled by flaggers. Work zone extends from 0.51 mile east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.15 mile west of city limits. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

(NEW) Exit 269, northbound and southbound – Alternating right shoulder closures for inspection of Route 730 (Caverns Road) bridge over I-81.  March 26 and March 27 if needed, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 284.9, northbound and southbound – Alternating right shoulder closures for inspection of Route 604 (Fairview Road) bridge over I-81.  March 26 and March 27 if needed, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 and Route 42 (Town of Woodstock) – New intersection construction of East Reservoir Road and Route 11. Flagger controlled traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Be alert for new traffic patterns and temporary signals. Estimated completion May 2014.

(NEW) Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 0 to 15, westbound and eastbound – Be alert for debris removal and pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 – Bridge replacement work over Gooney Creek from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605.  Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion October 2015. Motorist should expect minor delays.

Route 340 (Duck Street to 17th Street, Town of Front Royal) – Daily lane closures, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., center turn lane closures, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and nightly closures, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday – Friday for utility relocations. Estimated completion spring 2014.

Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road), from Duck Street to 17th Street –Old South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road) and 340/522.  Daily lane closures, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and nightly lane closures, 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday.  Motorists are advised to allow more time in daily commutes. Estimated completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Replacement of low-water bridge over South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Work zone is from Route 628 to 0.35 miles north. Flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2014.

 

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
