VCU defeats VMI Baseball, 15-2

vmi baseballVCU scored 13 runs in the first four innings and went on for a 15-2 victory over the visiting VMI baseball team Tuesday evening in non-conference play.

VMI got on the scoreboard in the sixth, as Jake Huggins drove in Ryan Smoot with a single. Cody Warner brought a run home in the ninth with a two-out basehit.

Will Lopez and Matt Keane each threw a scoreless inning out of the bullpen. Keane struck out all three batters he faced swinging. Josh Hollifield, Smoot and Michael Diodato also had hits for VMI.

Brandon Henson had three hits and three runs for the Rams (19-6). Logan Amiss was 2-5 with three RBI and Hogan Brown went 2-4 with three runs and two RBI.

VCU had 12 hits and five walks and took advantage of five Keydet errors for its fifth-straight win.

VMI (5-19) hosts James Madison University Wednesday at 6 p.m.
