A two-run single in the bottom of the ninth by Harrisonburg first baseman Michael Precise led to the second Valley League All-Star Game tie in three years.

The 5-5 tie stands because Valley League rules do not allow for extra innings in all-star games.

The 2006 game also ended in a tie.

Haymarket’s Joe Conforti (1-1, HR, 2 RBI) and Covington’s Marcus Nidiffer (2-2, HR, 3 RBI) shared game MVP honors.

Precise finished the game 4-for-5 with the one-out, two-RBI single in the ninth.

Luray outfielder Jeff Jefferson won the pregame home-run derby.
