UVA Tennis: Elbaba, Chang advance at pro circuit event in Baton Rouge

uva-logo-new2Rising UVA senior Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and incoming recruit Sophie Chang (Havre de Grace, Md.) advanced to the main draw at the $25K Southern Lifestyle Development Classic USTA Pro Circuit event at the Robinson Tennis Complex on Tuesday (June 23).

Elbaba defeated Stanford’s Taylor Davidson 6-1, 6-3 and Canada’s Marie Leduc 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the main draw. Davidson is a rising junior, who finished No. 22 in the ITA singles rankings in 2014-15. Elbaba will play Sam Crawford in the main draw. Crawford is ranked No. 261 in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings.

Chang defeated Vanderbilt’s Frances Altick 6-1, 6-2 and NCAA champion Jamie Loeb of North Carolina 6-3, 7-6(3). Altick, who helped Vanderbilt to its first NCAA championship this year, finished No. 69 in the final ITA singles rankings. Chang faces former UCLA star Jennifer Brady in the main draw. Brady is ranked No. 213 in the WTA rankings.
