UVA baseball’s 14-game homestand could come to an end without the Cavs playing a single game at Davenport Field in Charlottesville.
The school announced today that it will move its upcoming weekend baseball series with Pittsburgh from Davenport to Cary, N.C., because of field conditions from recent inclement weather in Charlottesville. The ACC series now will be played at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The Cavaliers (10-0, 0-0 ACC) and Panthers (3-6, 0-0 ACC) will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m., with the series finale set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
“I’d like to thank our fans for their patience,” said Todd Goodale, Virginia’s Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs. “We’ve been faced with extraordinary circumstances with the postponement or relocation of the first 13 home games of the season. With the number of season tickets available for return, it will be increasingly difficult to offer exchanges for future games and follow the inclement weather ticket policy. As a result, we’re going to refund our season ticket holders for the games that have been missed so far.”
Virginia baseball season ticket holders will receive a refund to the credit card on file from the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office by Friday, March 13. The amount of the refund will be calculated based on 11 lost events (due to the scheduled doubleheader on Feb. 21 and the April 1 make-up date announced for the VMI game that was postponed on March 4). The inclement weather ticket policy will be followed for the remainder of the 2015 season and refunds will not be offered in the future.
As a result of the refund, a season ticket for the 11 home games lost to date may no longer be exchanged for a general admission ticket to a future home game. Tickets for the March 4 game against VMI should be retained for admission to the rescheduled game against the Keydets on April 1.
Refunds will not be issued to 10-game package or single-game buyers. However, the exchange policy still applies for these purchasers.
“I’d like to thank our fans for their continued understanding and support,” Virginia head coach Brian O’Connor said. “We tried to prepare Davenport Field for play this weekend, but it just wasn’t possible. It is very important to complete every ACC series and with the limitations to play Pitt between Friday and Sunday, moving the series was the only option. Once again, everyone in our program appreciates the patience of our fans and we can’t wait to play in front of them at our home ballpark.”
ACC game-management protocol stresses that every effort should be made to complete all three games in a conference series. ACC regulations state that no make-up games may be played after the last scheduled date of a series. This change of location gives the teams the best opportunity to complete all three games in the series.

WINA 1070-AM in Charlottesville will provide the live radio broadcast of first game of the doubleheader Saturday as well as the Sunday contest; the second game of the doubleheader will not air on WINA because of a conflict with the UVa men’s basketball game that evening.
There is no admission charge for the games played in Cary, N.C.

Mini-packages and single-game tickets for the 2015 Virginia baseball season are on sale at the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office. Customers may purchase tickets by logging on to VirginiaSports.com, calling (800) 542-UVA1 or by visiting the ticket office in Bryant Hall during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets will also be sold at the Davenport Field ticket windows beginning one hour prior to each home game.
