UVA alum Jenny Boucek named assistant for NBA’s Dallas Mavericks

Jenny BoucekUVA women’s basketball alum Jenny Boucek has been named an assistant coach with the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks.

Boucek, a 1996 UVA grad, spent last season as a player development coach with the Sacramento Kings, becoming the third woman to serve an assistant coach for an NBA team.

Her job title with the Mavericks is assistant to the basketball staff for special projects.

“She will be involved in wide-ranging basketball assignments,” said Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle, a 1984 UVA alum. “Jenny is a veteran WNBA head coach and was a player development coach last season for the Sacramento Kings. I consider her one of the brightest minds in our game and welcome her to Dallas.”

Boucek had two stints as a head coach in the WNBA, in Sacramento from 2007-2009 and in Seattle from 2015-2017.

She moved into coaching after a brief playing career in the WNBA, taking a job as an assistant with the Washington Mystics in 1999. She was an assistant in Seattle when the Storm won WNBA championships in 2004 and 2010.

Boucek spent the 2014 training camp working with Carlisle’s staff.
