Update on Waynesboro Senior Center construction

Contributors

Due to the work needed in the main Senior Center area of the building, the Waynesboro Senior Center was asked to vacate the space for two weeks (Nov. 5-16) so crews could focus in that area.

With a little over a week into this time, the crews have definitely made visible progress. The ceiling tiles have all been removed, ducting for the new heating system is well on its way to completion, the old windows have been removed and replaced with temporary plywood, and they have started on the new accessible bathroom area. In terms of how it looks, this is definitely the stage of “it gets worse before it gets better.”

The members and staff are anxious to return on Nov. 19. When they get back, the heating system in the main room will be working, but not yet in the kitchen, rec room, and storage room. The new ceiling and lighting will not be in place, and it’s going to be rather dark in there with boarded up windows and only construction lights. But this is “home” and both members and staff have done a great job of adapting to our construction experience up to this point and we expect that will continue.
