Unemployment up in Waynesboro, Staunton, Augusta County in June

Unemployment was up sharply in Waynesboro, Staunton and Augusta County in June, according to figures released Wednesday morning by the Virginia Employment Commission.

The unemployment rate in Waynesboro was at 7.1 percent in June, up from 6.5 percent in May.

The rate in Staunton in June was 6.3 percent, up from May’s 6.1 percent.

Augusta County unemployment was at 5.7 percent in June, up from 5.2 percent in May.

Statewide, the unemployment rate jumped from 5.5 percent in May to 6.0 percent in June.
