Two arrested in Waynesboro on drug charges after SWAT raid

The Waynesboro Police Department arrested two men on felony drug charges over the weekend after a SWAT raid on a residence in the Wayne Hills area of the city.

Officers arrested Lance Brooks, 37 years old of Staunton, and Michael Wesley Hartless, 42 year old of Waynesboro, on one count each of Possession of Methamphetamine with the Intent to Distribute.  Brooks has two previous convictions for this offense.

The arrests come as the result of an ongoing narcotics investigation by the Department’s Special Operations Division.  The Department had received numerous complaints of likely drug activity at the residence located at 236 Elizabeth Avenue.

On January 24 at approximately 10:30 p.m., the Department’s SWAT Team, armed with a search warrant, raided the house.  Due to the likelihood that the subjects of the investigation were armed, the SWAT Team deployed a flash bang (stun grenade) before entering.

Inside the residence, the officers located Hartless, Brooks, two other individuals and a stash of methamphetamine, heroin, and prescription opiates but no firearms were found.  Hartless is the renter of the property.

Brooks and Hartless are being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.  Charges are pending against the other two individuals.
