TV News: WWE Monday Night Raw draws smallest audience of 2014

wwe rawThe good news: Monday Night Raw was once again the highest-rated show on cable TV this week. The bad news: the audience for this week’s Raw was the lowest in 2014.

This week’s Raw averaged 4.075 million viewers, down 7 percent from the 4.368 million that watched last week, and down 16.3 percent from the 2014 high of 4.869 million that watched the Jan. 20 Royal Rumble go-home show.

What has happened since that Royal Rumble go-home show that might have pushed a drop in the ratings? Oh, well, for starters, a smallish guy named CM Punk walked away from WWE after putting in another workmanlike effort as the first entrant in the Rumble. Then WWE began booking this underwhelming WrestleMania 30 card that features Randy Orton and Batista in the main event, with the possible addition of either Triple H or Daniel Bryan in a triple-threat match with Orton and Batista, and the Undertaker and Brock Lesnar trying to part-time their feud with Paul Heyman doing most of the heavy lifting.

The year-low rating for Raw just a few weeks away from WM30 can’t be good for WWE. What the company can do to reverse the negative long-term trend remains to be seen.
