Tractor-trailer accident closes portion of I-81 in Shenandoah County

i81-headerUpdate: 2:50 p.m. All lanes have re-opened southbound on Interstate 81 at exit 279 (Edinburg) in Shenandoah County. Earlier today both southbound lanes were blocked due to a tractor trailer accident. There is currently a 10-mile backup. Motorists should anticipate delays in this area as traffic clears.

 

Original post: 2:14 p.m. Both southbound lanes of Interstate 81 in Shenandoah County are blocked due to a tractor trailer accident at exit 279 (Edinburg). The southbound side of the interstate is expect to be closed for at least two hours. There is currently a 10-mile backup.

A detour has been established at exit 279. Drivers will use the off- and on-ramp to cross Route 185 and rejoin the interstate.
