Off the Top Rope: Why did WWE turn Daniel Bryan so fast?

danielbryanThe Internet wrestling community was all abuzz over the mysterious heel turn of top face daniel bryan two weeks ago. Why was Bryan being made basically a six-man tag wrestler with The Wyatt Family not long after headlining four WWE pay-per-views? What is the thought process behind taking one of your top money guys at the moment and making him an afterthought?

The answer: apparently there was no thought.

That much is obvious after the quick about-face at the end of Monday Night Raw. Bryan turned on tag-team partner Bray Wyatt, and the moment ended with an iconic “Yes! Yes! Yes!” chant from the crowd in Providence, R.I.

This end was definitely going to be the end to this odd match, but … two weeks in? Seriously?

Clearly WWE creative realized the mistake that was made in using Bryan to try to give the Wyatts legitimacy. Bryan is likely to be in one of the final two or three matches at WrestleMania 30. Dressing him up as a Wyatt and relegating him to tag matches is no push for a guy who will actually draw you money.

The drawback to the quick resolution to this nonsensical move is that it does nothing for the Wyatts, who have a great gimmick, but have had a hard time getting over for lack of a dance partner. Maybe that’s Bryan, but the about-face two weeks into this storyline tells us that creative is moving Bryan on to bigger and better things, and the Wyatts are still looking for the rival who will put them over the top as WM 30 season gets under way.

Bottom line: while the Bryan heel turn made no sense long term, it makes even less sense to have him go heel and then back to face in two weeks.
