Tom Goforth returning to the sidelines as new football coach at Fishburne Military School

Tom GoforthFishburne Military School announced today that Tom Goforth has been hired as the school’s new head football coach.

Goforth has been a high school football coach in Virginia for 37 years, including a long stint at Stuarts Draft High School, where he served from 1990-2013. Goforth most recently served on the staff of Derek McDaniel at Waynesboro High School dating back to 2014.

Goforth’s list of accomplishments as a coach and educator is extensive and is highlighted by a state championship at Tazewell High School in 1986, two district championships at Stuarts Draft in 1995 and 1996, five straight VHSL playoff appearances with SDHS from 2007-2012. three straight VHSL playoff appearances with WHS from 2014-2016, including a Final Eight birth in 2014, a state semifinal appearance as an assistant at Riverheads in 2013.

Chip Hill, who has led Fishburne’s football program since 2015, will devote his time to leading the school’s academic department after being named headmaster last summer. Coach Hill lead the Caissons to a conference championship in 2015 and coached eight all-state athletes in his time as head coach.

The first game of the Goforth Era will be Aug. 31 at Roanoke Catholic School. The Caissons’ first home game will be Sept. 28 against Randolph-Macon.

Coach Goforth was introduced to the cadets and addressed the corps today, Wednesday April 4.
