Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer announced Monday that redshirt freshman Logan Thomas has been named the No. 2 quarterback behind senior Tyrod Taylor. Redshirt sophomore Ju-Ju Clayton will be the No. 3 signal-caller.
“We’re fortunate to have two quality backups at quarterback, both of whom are at a stage that they can go in and win a game for us,” Beamer said. “We felt the decision needed to be made at this time to give our No. 2 quarterback more reps in practice.”
Clayton, a 6-1, 220-pounder, had his last significant on-field action as a senior at Hermitage in 2007, where he threw for 2,117 yards and 22 touchdowns and ran 274 yards and five scores in leading the school to a regional title.
The last significant action for Thomas, a 6-6, 242-pounder, came in 2008 at Brookville, which he led to a state runnerup finish in 2008 while being named the Group AA player of the year and throwing for 1,535 yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior.
