Smart homes

There seems to be no way to stop the spread of the Internet of Things, and that’s good news for manufacturers, as well as for consumers. Smart homes offer more convenience, a higher quality of life, energy savings, and many other benefits. There is also more possible than ever before with IoT devices and systems. What should you know about what’s coming up?

AI Security

One of the most impressive advances of the past few years has been the improvement in artificial intelligence. While we haven’t quite hit HAL9000 or Terminator level AI, it’s evolved to the point that we can now allow it to watch over our home security systems. These systems track the comings and goings of both authorised and unauthorised users, and can alert the police if unauthorised or incorrect entry is noticed.

Clothes Folding

Who hasn’t wished that their pile of laundry was just a bit smaller? Well, while smart homes can’t help with the washing up just yet, they can help with the other half of the equation – the folding of your garments. The Foldimate debuted in 2018 and should start rolling out to some consumers later this year. You simply feed in your clothes and the machine will fold them for you.

Sobro

The Sobro is a smart coffee table that combines a 32-can cooler with USB charging capabilities, motion detector-based lighting, and a whole host of other perks. There’s also a smaller side table that offers the same functionality, and both can be controlled through an app to lock the cooler drawers.

The Rise of Voice Control

Most smart homes rely on the use of apps through smartphones and tablets. That’s great, but the future seems to be more audio-based. More and more smart home technology is being equipped to recognise voices and voice commands, a la Siri and Alexa. In fact, it’s the prevalence and success of those automated assistants that has given rise to the boom of interest in voice control. With many soon to be released products, people will just need to speak to the device to get it to do whatever (turn on the lights, brew coffee, etc.).

In the end, smart homes are evolving, and they’re doing so quickly. To learn more about this technology, visit iZone.
