Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer likes being able to create game conditions in his preseason scrimmages.

“I know our players enjoy performing in front of the crowds, and I want our fans to create game-like conditions,” said Beamer, who has opened the Hokies’ three preseason scrimmages – Tuesday, Aug. 12, Saturday, Aug. 16, and Friday, Aug. 22 – to the public.

The scrimmages will be held in Lane Stadium. More information on the open scrimmages is available at www.hokiesports.com.

Beamer said it will be important to get as much game-day experience for his young team in the walkup to the Aug. 30 season opener against East Carolina.

“We have so many players who’ll be getting significant playing time, for the first time in their careers, that it’s important that they get a feel for playing in front of a crowd in these scrimmages. Plus, it puts additional pressure on our kicking game, and we need to see how our specialists respond to that,” Beamer said.
