The Commonwealth of Virginia will receive more than $100 million and qualified Virginia VW owners will receive tens of millions more in direct compensation.
An analysis by The Guardian revealed that VWs in the U.S. are likely emitting between 10,392 and 41,571 tons of toxic nitrogen oxides.
Details have been emerging this week of a clever trick pulled by Volkswagen in North America. The German-based automaker is alleged to have been using software to cheat EPA emissions tests for millions of its turbocharged direct injection (TDI) diesel engine Volkswagen and Audi cars dating back to 2009.
Attorney General Mark R. Herring announced that Virginia has joined the executive committee of a multistate investigation into Volkswagen for altering emissions software to produce favorable test results.
