Representation at Augusta County Public Hearing

The public hearing for the proposed FY15 Augusta County budget, including a 5-cent increase in real estate taxes, was held on April 16.


Representation at Staunton City Council Public Hearing

Staunton Senior Center (SSC) member Laura Luziach and SSC Local Council Chair Michael Thompson spoke on behalf of VPAS at the Staunton City Council Public Hearing on the proposed FY15 budget. Both were speaking in support of the budget and thanking the City for their support of VPAS.


VPAS CDSME Exceeds Grant Completer Goal

VPAS Chronic Disease Self-Management Education (CDSME) has exceeded the current grant year goal of having 258 workshop completers with a current total of 272 even though the grant year does not end until Aug. 31. A workshop completer is defined as a participant who attends at least four of six workshop sessions.

SAW Region to Host Candidate Forums April 16 and April 23

Election Day for City Council and School Board candidates in Staunton and Waynesboro is May 6. The SAW Region of the Valley Program for Aging Services continues its tradition of hosting local candidate forums.

Medicare Counseling Survey Results

A volunteer recently completed a telephone survey of approximately 10% of the individuals who received Medicare insurance counseling from one of the SAW Region Virginia Insurance Counseling Assistance Program (VICAP) counselors from July 1, 2013 to Dec 31, 2013.


Mobile Information Station in SAW and HR Kicked Off This Week

The Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro and Harrisonburg-Rockingham expansion of the Mobile Information Station (MIS) took off for real this week, and it has been very encouraging.

The SAW Region of the Valley Program for Aging Services has received numerous donations as a result of VICAP counseling sessions, which in and of itself shows that the donors found value in the service that VICAP Counselors are providing.

MPO to host open house to kick off long range transportation plan

The Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (SAWMPO) will hold a public open house Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 4:30-7 p.m. at Wilson Middle School in Fishersville to kick off the development of a Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP).
