All of our lives we have spent putting out fires. These fires were started by our perfectionism and our procrastination.
Clutter has a way of slipping into our world without us even noticing. It piles up on our hotspots, in our dresser drawers and on our backsides.
Did life happen and your dreams get put on the back burning? This has occurred to most of us. We have all heard that procrastination is the thief of time. I don’t think that is entirely the case. Time is constant; we all have the same hours in every single day, it is how we choose to use those hours that steals the time. We all seem to think that things will take longer than they really will, so we talk ourselves out of doing them. Just what have you been procrastinating about lately: Laundry, getting the car washed or is it something much deeper than household chores?
Do you ever feel like you must be losing your mind? Someone says to you, “I told you that last week!” or “Don’t you remember?” We can get defensive about comments like this. I know I have. This morning as I was “sleeping in” it hit me what the problem is.
Are you still trying to sleep in the midst of a junk yard? You know exactly what I am talking about! Your bedroom! Over time it has become the graveyard for things that have no home. It is time for you to purge these things from your bedroom. I want your bedroom to be a haven for you each evening when you put your head on your pillow.
Procrastination has been a way of life for most of us. When we think a job is going to take longer than we have time for then we put it off. That is our perfectionism. We have been taught since the day we were born that if we can’t do something right don’t do it at all! We listened! We may not have heard much else that was said but that stuck in our minds.
We all make mistakes! This is a fact of living. So why do we beat ourselves up when we have made a bad choice. I think it is because deep down inside we are doing what has been done to us all of our lives; punishing ourselves. This has got to stop.
This morning while I was taking my bath I noticed a little feathery spider crawling across my ceiling. I have been watching this spider since last fall. It is a happy living thing and I have become protective of it!
How many times a day do you hear the word “ENOUGH” come out of our mouth or into your brain. Let’s just look at damage that this word does to all of us.
What are we doing to our families because we can’t let go of the past! You know exactly what I am talking about. I had to get tough with a dear friend this morning over this same problem. She is not the only one that is struggling with this issue. Here is the situation. My […]
In the past we have been told about a purple soup that was called FlyLady Soup? It was made with Black Beans that look purple. Did you know that you have a pie too! I like to think of it as Peace Pie!
If we didn’t have paper clutter, our homes would be clean! Oh yes I know you will all agree with me on this one! Paper has multiplied like rabbits and is hopping from one flat surface to the next. How can we stop this invasion from taking over our homes?
Some of you still don’t believe me when I say that you cannot organize clutter; you can only get rid of it! For the life of me I can’t understand why you won’t just try it. I have given you little assignments to clear off areas so that you can feel the difference the free space has on your life. Yet you are still refusing to let it go!
What is it about sleep! We hate to go to bed at night but then in the morning we can’t pour ourselves out of bed! I can tell you all about this. In our perfectionism we want do to one more thing before we go to bed and it gets later and later. When we finally do crawl underneath the covers our bodies are starving for the sleep we have been deprived of. No wonder we don’t want to wake up when the alarm clock goes off at dawn. I can hear you now; just a few more minutes.
We want a home that hugs us! But where do we start? This has been the underlying question that causes us to procrastinate. I have an answer. We start with shining our sink. That is the absolute first habit to establish is keeping our sinks clean and shiny. Then we declutter. That’s when the question comes up again, “Where do I start?” I have been thinking about this and sometime we get the cart before the horse.
Perfectionism is like a monster with hundreds of tentacles and it reaches into every part of our lives and holds on till we can find it and rip it out. The only problem is that if there is the least little bit left; it will fester till it tries to take over your life again.
Every year we have a clean slate on New Year’s day! In our book Body Clutter, Leanne and I told you that you can make any day, your New Year’s day! We just need change on our heart and we can do it!
At the end of every year most of the world is reminiscing about the past year. It is sad to think about those who have left this world. Instead of crying over our loss; let’s take what we learned from those folks and make our affirmations for the New Year.
All of our lives we have spent putting out fires. These fires were started by our perfectionism and our procrastination. Along with panic of these fires come the squeals of martyrdom and yells of dissatisfaction. We have all done this and it is our family who have had listen to it.
I was asked by an interviewer once, “if anyone wanted to treat themselves to a gift from the fly shop what would that be?” I told them it was not a gift from the Fly Shop that I would recommend to FlyBabies to give themselves that it was a gift of routines.
Today, a song from the Sound of Music keep playing in my head; My Favorite Things. This is the God Breeze for my musing. Many years ago I read a wonderful book by Pam Young and Peggy Jones; The Happiness File! This book changed my life because it taught me to surround myself with the things I love and that make me smile.
At this time of year we start thinking about the things we are grateful for. I am thankful for a roof over my head. It hasn’t been that long ago that I was practically living out of my car. This year I have been working with Habitat for Humanity. We worked on a Women Build Project in Asheville and I have been getting my FlyLady members to donate their abundance to a Habitat Restore in their area.

Years ago, I started to practice loving myself. At first it was just in words only. I wanted to find a way to relieve my stress and slow down my thoughts. That is when I found meditation.
Music has a way of seeping into your brain and staying dormant for decades. This week I had another lyric come to me out of the depths of my subconscious, “O-O-H child things are going to be easier”! Isn’t it strange how those simple words can give us such hope! I looked up the full […]
