The UVA men’s basketball team had four players earn All-ACC awards Sunday as the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA) announced its 2014-15 honors. The Cavaliers tied a school record with three All-ACC selections, while Tony Bennett repeated as ACC Coach of the Year and senior Darion Atkins (Clinton, Md.) was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year.

Second-ranked UVA needed a half to get its bearings straight. The Cavs outscored Clemson 29-6 in the opening 11:35 of the second half to break open a close game and coasted from there to a 65-42 win over the Tigers in front of a sellout crowd at the John Paul Jones Arena Tuesday night.

N.C. State got off to a fast start against third-ranked UVA, but the Hoos were able to fight off the Wolfpack, winning 61-51. Justin Anderson led UVA with 16 points and 9 rebounds, while Ralston Turner’s 14 points were a team-high for the Pack. With the win, Virginia improves to 14-0 on the season, its best start since the 1980-81 season.

Saturday’s ACC opener went the way third-ranked UVA and its legion of fans expected in the first 20 minutes. A business-like 51.9 percent shooting, a suffocating defensive effort that limited Miami to 20 first-half points, and an 18-point lead going into the break.
