VMI men drop 4-0 decision to Robert Morris: In the final game of the 2014 Jay Sculley Memorial Tournament, the Virginia Military Institute men’s soccer team had chances early in each half, but the Colonials of Robert Morris University struck twice in each stanza to top VMI 4-0 in non-conference action at Patchin Field on Sunday.
Despite three early shots from Andrew Starnes in the first three minutes of the game, the Virginia Military Institute men’s soccer team could not get on the board against USC Upstate, falling 2-0 to the Spartans during the 2014 Jay Sculley Memorial Tournament, contested at Patchin Field.
Deadlocked and scoreless through the first 63 minutes of a non-conference game with UNC Asheville, VMI got what proved to be the game-winning goal from junior Andrew Starnes in the 64th minute, lifting the Keydets over the Bulldogs 1-0.
With the fall season rapidly approaching, the VMi men’s soccer team returned to Post on Aug. 14 to begin its preseason regimen in advance of the 2014 slate.
