Bob Goodlatte: It’s not time to rethink the Libya ban

Protecting American citizens from terrorist threats both at home and abroad is a fundamental role of the federal government. However, despite Libya’s long history of unrest and ongoing terrorist threats coming from the country, the Executive Branch has proposed reversing a longstanding prohibition against Libyans entering the United States to work in aviation maintenance, flight operations, or to study or train in nuclear-related fields. This shift in policy is misguided and ignores reality.


Gov. McAuliffe signs bill transferring homeland security responsibilities

Gov. Terry McAuliffe signed SB381, which transfers the responsibility for overseeing and coordinating efforts to strengthen homeland security from the Secretary of Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security to the Secretary of Public Safety.

Sen. Warner urges review of security procedures at military facilities following fatal shooting at Navy base

U.S. Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) called for a review of security procedures at U.S. military installations today following a recent tragic shooting at Naval Station Norfolk in which a Navy petty officer was killed by a shooter who was apparently granted an access card despite a long and violent criminal record, including a previous conviction for manslaughter.

Virginia receives increased homeland security grant funds

Gov. Terry McAuliffe today announced that Virginia has received $7.4 million in Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) funds for fiscal year 2014 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), a 15 percent increase from the previous fiscal year.
