Pat Light was outstanding for the second straight time out, allowing just a run on three hits in six innings to give the Salem Red Sox a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Mudcats at Five County Stadium Saturday night.
Jonathan Roof’s 7th inning home run gave the Salem Red Sox a 4-3 lead which would be enough for the Sox 4th consecutive win, and third straight to start the series against the Mudcats.

The Lynchburg Hillcats (15-19) fended off another Blue Rocks (15-19) comeback effort today as Kevin Ahrens broke a 4-4 tie in the seventh inning with an RBI single leading the Hillcats to a 5-4 win in Wilmington.
Wes Parsons tossed seven strong innings, striking out six in the longest start by a Hillcats pitcher this season, but Lynchburg couldn’t hold a 3-2 lead entering the ninth inning and eventually fell to Carolina, 5-3 in 10 innings, at Calvin Falwell FieldTuesday night.
The Carolina Mudcats were a strike away from getting out of it unscathed. Reed Gragnani stepped in with the bases loaded and two outs in a 2-2 tie in the top of the tenth, quickly falling behind 0-2 in the count against Rob Nixon. But a couple of pitches later, Gragnani drilled a 1-2 delivery into right field for a two-run single, vaulting the Salem Red Sox to their first lead of the chilly North Carolina night.
The Potomac Nationals (2-2, 2-2) used a furious late rally to best the Carolina Mudcats (2-2, 2-2) by the final score of 6-4 in their 2014 Carolina League Opening Weekend series finale at Five County Stadium on Sundayafternoon.
