Governor McAuliffe announces preservation of 65 acres of Civil War battlefield

Governor Terry McAuliffe today announced the protection of 65 acres of Civil War battlefield in Williamsburg. The land is being donated by Anheuser-Busch to the Civil War Trust, the largest nonprofit organization devoted to preserving America’s battlegrounds.

Kaine battlefield protection bill becomes law

The American Battlefield Protection Program Amendments Act, a bipartisan bill introduced by U.S. Senators Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Thad Cochran (R-MS) and U.S. Representatives Rob Wittman (R-VA) and Rush Holt (D-NJ), was signed into law by President Obama today following passage by both houses of Congress as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2015 last week.


Governor McAuliffe accepts 127 acres of hallowed ground from Civil War Trust

Governor Terry McAuliffe presided over a ceremony at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield, formally announcing the transfer of 127 acres of hallowed ground at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park.

Wal-Mart donates battlefield lands in Orange to state

Wal-Mart has donated to the Commonwealth of Virginia more than 50 acres of land in Orange County associated with the Civil War battle of Chancellorsville and most notably with the battle of the Wilderness. Virginia’s Department of Historic Resources, the agency that will receive and steward the donated land, has worked quietly with Wal-Mart to complete a the donation documents and its acceptance.
