The UVA baseball team opened the 2014 NCAA Tournament with a 10-1 victory over Bucknell in the Charlottesville Regional Friday (May 30) at Davenport Field.
The pitching was great, with Nathan Kirby throwing a no-hitter Friday night, and Brandon Waddell and Nick Howard combining on a two-hit shutout on Sunday, sandwiched around Saturday, when the UVa. pitching staff gave up two runs on four hits.
Nathan Kirby didn’t just throw a no-hitter Friday night at Pitt. The UVa. lefty put in one of the more dominating no-hitters you may ever see.
The UVa. baseball team is 25-4 and at the top of the national polls. Sounds good, but it’s clear that the ‘Hoos haven’t played anything close to their best baseball. That’s the scary thing about Virginia baseball right now: that things can actually get better, maybe a lot better.
