BACK TO BACK, THREE OUT OF FOUR: It had been 26 years since Virginia had posted back-to-back losing seasons. Saturday’s 14-10 loss to Boston College guarantees the ’09 season as the back end of back-to-back losing campaigns for Al Groh.
It’s also three losing seasons in four for Virginia. The Cavs were 5-7 in 2006, 9-4 in 2007, 5-7 in 2008 and are 3-7 with two games to play in 2009.
TAYLOR HAS BANNER DAY: Two hundred yards and three touchdowns. In the first half. Tyrod Taylor was an obvious key for Virginia Tech in its 36-9 win at Maryland on Saturday.
Taylor, a junior, finished with 268 yards passing and 81 yards rushing.
For the season, Taylor has 12 touchdown passes and just three interceptions, an ACC low for a starting quarterback.
SEWELL MOVES UP UVA. PASSING RANKS: Jameel Sewell threw for 221 yards vs. BC, pushing him to 5,086 yards for his career, good for fifth all-time at Virginia.
SAY WHAT? You can’t make this stuff up, folks. Al Groh on yesterday’s lackluster performance from his UVa. team …

Editorial comment: Thanks for getting us to remember what it felt like back in the Dick Bestwick Era. When moral victories were all we had to sing about.
