Staunton VDOT District Traffic Alerts: Sept. 28-Oct. 2

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 0 (WV state line) to 2, eastbound – Alternating lane closures as needed for paving operations.  Days and times will vary during the week, including some work on Sundays, Saturdays and overnights. Estimated completion December 1.

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing sign areas, cleaning ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 220 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 269 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Tar and graveling, paving, ditching, pipe replacement and shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Patching with flagger traffic control. Mowing with a mobile operation.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures for bridge sweeping Wednesday and Thursday, 8 p.m. nightly to 7 a.m. the following mornings.

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris and cleaning paved ditches, slopes and drop inlets. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 53.3 to 55.3, eastbound and westbound – Eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge until late 2015 while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews trimming trees, removing debris, clearing sign areas and cleaning paved ditches, slopes and drop inlets.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 173.9 to 205.6, northbound and southbound – Lane closures for bridge sweeping Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, 8 p.m. nightly to 7 a.m. the following mornings.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 60 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 252 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation.  Patching, pipe replacement, brush cutting, tree removal, ditching and pothole repairs with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 611 (South Buffalo Creek Road) – Road closed until October 9 for bridge replacement over a tributary of South Buffalo Creek. Work zone is 1.06 miles north of Route 612 (Blue Grass Trail) and 4.35 miles south of Route 661 (Spring Branch Road).  Detours via Route 661 (Spring Branch Road) and Route 612 (Blue Grass Trail).

(NEW) Route 708 (Gilmore’s Mill Road) – Road closed at Cedar Creek bridge, just east of Route 608 (Shafer Lane). Detour using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway). Bridge scheduled for replacement with completion in fall 2016.

– Mowing with a mobile operation.  Patching, ditching, pothole repairs, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pipe replacement, grading and brush cutting with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 220 – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement 0.7 mile south of Route 606 (Dry Branch Road). Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 250 – Flagger traffic control for shoulder repairs.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 629 (Straight Creek Road) – Ditching with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Patching with flagger traffic control.  Mowing with mobile operation.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as need for mowing and litter removal. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and bridge sweeping Tuesday, Wednesday andThursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Exit 91 (Fishersville) – Eastbound right lane closed from mile makers 90 to 92 for milling and paving October 2, 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. October 3. Eastbound off-ramp to Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) closed October 2 from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. October 3 for milling and paving. Eastbound traffic detour: I-81 north to Exit 222 to Route 250 to Route 285.

Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Median shoulder and right shoulder closures Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion Dec. 24, 2015

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning paved ditches, drop inlets and slopes.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 205.6 to 237, northbound and southbound – Lane closures as need for mowing and litter removal. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and bridge sweeping Tuesday, Wednesday andThursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on ramps.  Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion Dec. 24, 2015.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over White Oak Draft. Work zone is about 0.5 mile west of Route 728.  Estimated project completion Jan. 29, 2016.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over Calfpasture River. Work zone is just east of Route 715 (Braley Pond Road).  Estimated project completion March 2016.

Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road-widening project between Route 636 and Route 635.

Route 340 (Rosser Avenue, Waynesboro), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures. Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.  for installation of traffic-management system near I-64 on-ramps. Estimated completion Dec. 24, 2015.

Route 340/635 Intersection – Lane shifts and shoulder closures for gas line installation.  Estimated completion Oct. 23, 2015.

(UPDATE) Route 340 at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road, Stuarts Draft) – Right lane and shoulder closures at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road) through October 31 for utility work.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 608 (Cold Springs Road, Greenville) – 24/7 “Stop and proceed” single-lane traffic pattern for bridge widening project over Deep Pond Run.  Work zone 0.95 mile south of Route 658 (Avis Road) to 0.70 mile north of Route 662 (Greenville School Road).  Estimated completion October 22.

Route 608 (Tinkling Springs Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for improvements at Route 608/635 intersection.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion Dec. 15, 2015.

Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue), northbound and southbound – – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on ramps.  Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion Dec. 24, 2015.

Route 635 (Augusta Farms Road/Ramsey Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for improvements at Route 608/635 intersection. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion Dec. 15, 2015.

Route 636 (Lifecore Drive) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road widening west of Route 285.

(UPDATE) Route 693 (Cedar Green Road)Intermittent lane closures for utility work between Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) and Route 704 (William Cousins Road).  Estimated completion October 16.

Route 801 (Hangers Mill Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) and Route 835 (Hotchkiss Road) for bridge replacement. Traffic will follow the posted detour. Estimated completion October 2015.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, hand mowing bridge slopes and cleaning paved ditches.  Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) between Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) to Route 687 (Massanetta Springs Road) – Single lane closure westbound for water line installation.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30pm.  Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2015.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 800 (American Legion Drive) – Road closed for pipe replacement on September 30 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., between Route 618 (Lone Pine Drive) and Route 1518 (Irish Path).

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, hand mowing and shoulder repair. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 272.5 to 274.5, northbound – Overnight lane closures at various locations for milling and paving.  Sunday to Thursday nights: Left lane closed September 27, 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. following morning.  Right lane closed September 28, 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following morning.  Right lane and on- and off-ramp closures at exit 273 (Mount Jackson/Basye) September 29-30, 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following mornings. Drivers needing to access ramps will detour to Exit 277 (Bowman’s Crossing) and Route 11 (Old Valley Pike). Right shoulder closures October 1, 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following morning and October 2, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion October 16.

(UPDATE) Mile Marker 282.8 to 285.9, northbound – Overnight lane closures for milling, paving and guardrail work at various locations. Off- and on-ramps narrowed at exit 283 (Woodstock).  Monday to Thursday, 8:00 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion October 1, 2015.

Mile marker 299, northbound at Warren county line – Overnight lane closures as needed for bridge work over Cedar Creek.  Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion November 6, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 211 – Short duration /mobile lane closures as needed for soil and rock testing from southern intersection with Route 620 to Shenandoah/Page county line, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., September 29 (rain date September 30).

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 678 (South Fort Valley Road) – Flagger-controlled lane closures for paving and shoulder work from Route 675 (Kings Crossing) to Route 675 (Camp Roosevelt Road), 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion date September 30, 2015.

Route 758 (Seven Fountains Road, Fort Valley area) – Road closure for bridge replacement over Passage Creek, 0.7 miles from southern intersection with Route 678 (Fort Valley Road). Local traffic can access properties north of bridge by approaching from northern intersection of Routes 758/678. Estimated completion May 2016.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing, patching.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

No lane closures reported.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Watch for crews removing debris, brush cutting and fence repair.  Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mile marker 309 to 311, northbound and southbound – Right and left shoulders closed 24/7.  Motorists should be alert for trucks entering and exiting the work zone. Part of exit 310 interchange project scheduled for completion in May 2018.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 37, northboundRight shoulder closure of Route 522 off-ramp during construction of additional turn lane. Estimated completion Nov. 15, 2015.

Route 37, southboundOn- and off-ramps at Winchester Medical Center are closed for interchange reconstruction.  Southbound Route 37 drivers can use Route 50 to access the medical center. Estimated completion January 2016.

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange), northbound and southbound Be alert for construction vehicles and related activities at exit 310 interchange and intersections of Tasker Road (Route 642) and Hillandale Drive (Route 847). Part of interchange reconstruction scheduled for completion in May 2018.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange),  Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.44 miles south of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 interchange project.  Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated  project completion May 2018.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange) – Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.31 miles north of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW)  Route 340 (Lord Fairfax Highway) – Flagger controlled lane closures for milling operations from south of Berryville Town Limits to north of Town Limits (1.05 miles), 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion October 6.  Flagger controlled lane closures for paving, shoulder stone and pavement marking operations continue in the same work zone, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion October 9.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 601 (Blue Ridge Mountain Road, Mount Weather area) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge deck over Route 601. Lane width reduced to 12’ and height restriction of 13’ in place.  Work zone speed reduced to 30 mph.  Work zone is about 0.5 mile north and south of Route 605/601 intersection.  Estimated project completion October 1.

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

I-66/I-81 Interchange – Bridge repair closures. I-66 eastbound ramp narrows as needed Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and I-81 northbound left shoulder closed as needed Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion September 30.

Mile marker 0 to 15 – Watch for crews removing debris and shoulder repair. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mile marker 7, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures for bridge work at Shenandoah River, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday. Estimated completion October 2.

 

INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 299, northbound at Warren county line – Overnight lane closures as needed for bridge deck work over Cedar Creek.  Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion November 6, 2015.

I-81/I-66 Interchange – Bridge repair closures.  I-81 northbound left shoulder closed as needed Monday – Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  The  I-66 eastbound ramp narrows as needed Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion September 30.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection, and lane shift from 340/522 to Forest Hill Drive. Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway, Gooney Creek area) – Daytime lane closures with flagger traffic control for paving operations from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605. Use caution when driving through work zone and expect delays. Estimated completion October 2015.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Lane shift and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection from north end of bridge to Duck Street. Lane shift and closure of center turn lane from south end of bridge to just south of 17thStreet. Through traffic using 18th Street will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street.  Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Mowing and ditch work.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
