Staunton VDOT District traffic alerts: Feb. 16-20

vdot logoThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as needed for patching potholes, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. onFebruary 18 and 19.

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal, clearing sign areas, cleaning bridge ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 60 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 159 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 311 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Brush cutting and pothole repairs with flagger traffic control. Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Brush-cutting and pothole repairs with flagger traffic control.  Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Pothole repairs and shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control. Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Pothole repairs, brush cutting and shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control. Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal and crews cleaning paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 53.3 to 55.3, eastbound and westbound.  Eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge for about a year while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, repairing mile marker signs and cleaning paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 200.6, southbound – Shoulder closures as needed for I-81 bridge maintenance work over Route 710 (Sterrett Road).  Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion March 31, 2015.

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 174, northbound and southbound – Lane closures as needed for patching potholes, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. on February 18 and 19.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 252 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Ditching, brush cutting, pothole repairs, trash pickup, shoulder repairs and pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 710 (Sterrett Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for I-81 bridge maintenance work.  Mondaythrough Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion March 31, 2015.

Various roads – Ditching, brush cutting, pothole repairs, trash pickup, shoulder repairs and pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 250 – Brush cutting and trimming from McDowell to Monterey. Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Tree removal with flagger control. Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Median shoulder closures and possible right shoulder closures for installation of underground conduit system in median. Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Estimated completion September 4, 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Lane closures as needed for patching potholes, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on February 18 and 19.

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, repairing mile marker signs, replacing object markers, cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 207 – Right shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 620 bridge over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Feb. 27, 2015.

Mile marker 209.2 – Right shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 671 (Alamo Chapel Road) bridge over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Feb. 27, 2015.

Mile marker 216.2 – Shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 655 bridge over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Feb. 27, 2015.

Mile marker 219.9 – Shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 647 (Christians Creek Road) bridge over I-81.Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Feb. 27, 2015.

(NEW) Mile marker 221, northbound and southbound – Alternating shoulder closures for bridge inspection at Route 262 over I-81. February 18, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 228.4 – Shoulder closures as needed for Route 781 (Mill Race Road) bridge work over I-81. Monday throughThursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Feb. 27, 2015.

Mile marker 230.3 – Shoulder closure as needed for Route 742 (Toll Gate Road) bridge work over I-81. Monday throughThursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Feb. 27, 2015.

Mile marker 233.9 – Shoulder closure as needed for Route 750 (Keezletown Road) bridge work over I-81. Monday throughThursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Feb. 27, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 250 (Hanky Mountain Highway) Periodic right lane closures with flagging operations for westbound shoulder work. February 15 to 20, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.  Work zone 0.606 miles west of Route 728 to 0.434 miles west of Route 728.

Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Watch for shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road-widening project between Route 636 and Route 635.

Route 340 – Right shoulder closures as needed at various locations for fiber optic installation from Route 11/Greenville to the Augusta/Rockingham County Line. Estimated completion February 28, 2015.

Route 340/635 Intersection– Lane shifts and shoulder closures for gas line installation on northbound shoulder between Route 649 and Route 635.  Estimated completion October 23, 2015.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 608 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Alternating lane closures with flaggers for improvements at intersection with Route 648.Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. schedule will resume. Estimated completion May 31, 2015.

Route 620 (Spottswood Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for repairs on Route 620 bridge over I-81. Monday throughThursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Feb. 27, 2015.

Route 636 (Lifecore Drive) – Watch for shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road-widening project west of Route 285.

Route 647 (Christians Creek Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for bridge work over I-81.  Monday throughThursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Feb. 27, 2015.

Route 648 (Christians Creek Road) – Alternating lane closures with flaggers for intersection improvements at Route 648/Route 608 intersection.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. schedule will resume. Estimated completion May 31, 2015.

Route 655 (Walnut Hills Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for bridge repairs over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Feb. 27, 2015.

Route 671 (Alamo Chapel Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for bridge repairs over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Feb. 27, 2015.

Route 742 (Toll Gate Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for bridge work over I-81. Monday throughThursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Feb. 27, 2015.

Route 750 (Keezletown Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for bridge work over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Feb. 27, 2015.

Route 781 (Mill Race Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for bridge work over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion Feb. 27, 2015.

Route 801 (Hangers Mill Road) – Road closed to through traffic between Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) and Route 835 (Hotchkiss Road) for bridge replacement over Jennings Branch. Traffic will follow the posted detour. Local traffic will have access to their properties during construction. Estimated completion October 2015.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Pothole repairs as needed. Debris removal and fence repair.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 33W – Right shoulder closure from the Greene County line to 200’ west, replacing drop Inlet.  Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Estimated completion Friday February 27.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 742 (Robinson Road) – Flagger controlled traffic for cross pipe replacement, Wednesday, February 18, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 748 (Thomas Spring Road) – Road closed to through traffic Tuesday, February 17, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for pipe replacement.  Detours are in place: Traveling north on Route 613 (Spring Creek Road) – Continue north to Route 752 (Silver Creek Road).  Continue east on Route 752 (Silver Creek Road) 2.01 miles to Route 909 (Silver Creek Road), turning left onto Route 909 (Silver Creek Road) heading south. Travel 0.80 miles south on Route 909 making right turn onto Route 752 (Thomas Spring Road) to end of detour.  Traveling north on Route 748 (Thomas Spring Road) – Continue north for 0.80 miles and take left onto Route 752 (Silver Creek Road) heading west 2.01 mile to Route 613 (Spring Creek Road). Turn left onto Route 613 (Spring Creek Road) to end of detour.

(NEW) Route 910 – Flagger controlled traffic for cross pipe repair and replacement, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on February 19 and 20.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

Route 652 (Airport Road) – Shoulder closures for soil testing from Route 211 (Lee Highway) to Route 675 (Bixler’s Ferry Road). Monday through  Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion February 27.

(NEW) Route 642 – Alternating single lane closures with flaggers for I-81 bridge inspection over Route 642 and Dry Run. February 16, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 760 (Water Street) – Flagger controlled traffic from Route 1403 to 0.30 mile east for bridge replacement over Stony Creek. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion June 2015.

Various roads – Pipe cleaning, drainage work, brush cutting and pothole patching.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Pothole repairs as needed.  Fence repair, debris removal and brush removal on bridge slopes. Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 313 to 314, northbound and southbound – Alternating shoulder closures for bridge inspection at Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) over I-81. February 17, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 50, east – Shoulder closures for the construction of a new crossover between Route 781 (Prince Frederick Drive) and Route 655 (Sulphur Spring Road).  Daylight hours.  Estimated completion March 15, 2015.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

No lane closures reported.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – New traffic pattern with lane shifts on north and south ends of the bridge replacement project over Gooney Creek. Work zone from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605. Estimated completion Oct. 2015.

Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue / Winchester Road), from Duck Street to 17th Street – Old South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road) and 340/522.  Additional lane shift and closure of center turn lane from the south end of the bridge to just past 17th Street and closure of 18th Street to through traffic. Through traffic will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street. Lane shifts on Route 55 just west of Route 340/522. These changes will be in effect through summer 2015.  Estimated bridge completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Pipe cleaning, brush cutting and pothole patching.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.

Dial 1-800-FOR-ROAD (1-800-367-7623) from anywhere in the state to report road hazards, ask transportation questions, or get information related to Virginia’s roads.
