Staunton VDOT District Traffic Alert: Oct. 6-10

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as needed for mowing operations. Sunday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Be alert for debris removal and clearing sign areas, cleaning bridge ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 18 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

Route 60 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

Route 159 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 220 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

Route 311 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 606 (Sioux Street, Clifton Forge) – Right shoulder closure with intermittent flagging for box culvert construction work under I-64.  Estimated completion June 15, 2015.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Patching, grading brush cutting and tree removal with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Patching, grading brush cutting and tree removal with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal, clearing sign areas, cleaning paved ditches, and shoulder repairs/stabilization operations. Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 53.3 to 55.3, eastbound and westbound – Alternating lane closures Monday and Tuesday, October 6-7, for pavement marking and traffic barrier installation. Beginning Wednesday, October 8, eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge for about a year while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Lane closures as needed for mowing and sweeping bridge decks, Sunday through Thursday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Be alert for crews removing debris, repairing mile marker signs and cleaning paved ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 185 to 190 including Ramps 188A and 188B, northbound – Alternating lane closures for paving. Sunday, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. and Monday through Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated project completion December 2014.

Mile marker 193 to 190, southbound.  Nighttime left lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., for guardrail upgrades and shoulder paving. Estimated completion Jan. 15, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 130 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

Route 252 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

(NEW) Various roads – Pothole repairs with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 622 (Chestnut Grove Trail) – Road closed for bridge replacement October 1 – 31. Work zone is 0.45 mile east of Route 627 (Sycamore Valley Road) and 0.25 mile west of Route 626 (Hackens Road). Detour using Route 622 (Chestnut Grove Trail) to Route 623 (Farmhouse Road).

(UPDATE) Various roads –Patching, pipe replacement, brush cutting, pothole repairs, grading, trash pickup and ditching with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 250 – Shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing and brush cutting with a mobile operation. Ditching and patching with flagger control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 94 to 107 – Shoulder closures along the median, eastbound and westbound, October 6 to 10, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day for installation of temporary fence and underground conduit system in median. Estimated completion July 6, 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 207 – Right shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 620 bridge over I-81.  Mondaythrough Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2014.

Mile marker 209 – Right shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 671 bridge over I-81.  Mondaythrough Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2014.

Mile marker 213.3 (Exit 213, Greenville) – Shoulder closure Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. as needed for bridge work over Route 11. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2014.

Mile marker 215 – Right shoulder closure Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. as needed for bridge work over Route 694. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2014.

Mile marker 228 to 238, northbound – Nighttime alternating lane closures 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. for pavement work and guardrail upgrades. Estimated completion Dec. 24, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11– Lane and shoulder closures as needed for bridge work on I-81 overpass bridge in the exit 213 area at Greenville.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2014.

Route 250 – Traffic restricted to single 12-foot wide lane during Ramsey’s Draft bridge replacement.  Mondaythrough Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Traffic controlled by temporary signal. Work zone 1.04 miles west of Route 716 to 1.12 miles west of Route 716.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Route 252 – Alternating lane closures as needed for pavement work from just south of Route 701 to 0.36 miles north of Route 802. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 340 – Right shoulder closures as needed at various locations, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for fiber optic installation from Route 11/Greenville to the Augusta/Rockingham County Line. Estimated completion Dec. 31, 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 620 (Spotswood Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for repairs on Route 620 bridge over I-81 at mile marker 207.  Monday through Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2014.

Route 671 (Almo Chapel Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for repairs on Route 671 bridge over I-81 at mile marker 209.  Monday through Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2014.

Route 694 – Flagger controlled lane closure, Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. as needed for I-81 bridge work over Route 694. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2014.

Route 703 (Hewitt Road, near Swoope) – Road closed until approximately October 31 for installation of new steel truss bridge over the Middle River. Work zone is 0.99 mile to Route 876 (Swoope Road) and 1.62 miles from Route 708 (Miss Phillips Road).  Detours: North side traffic use Route 703 (Hewitt Road) to Route 876 (Swoope Road) to Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike).  South side traffic use Route 703 (Hewitt Road) to Route 708 (Miss Phillips Road) to Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike).

(NEW) Route 778 (Knightly Mill Road near Weyers Cave) – Road closed October 6 – 9 for bridge pipe replacement over Broad Run stream.  Work zone is 0.25 mile west of Route 773 (Westview School Road) to 0.72 mile east of Route 750 (Keezletown Road). Detours with posted signs: Eastbound traffic will turn north on Route 750, east on Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road), south on Route 773 and then back to Route 778.  Westbound traffic will turn north on Route 773, west on Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road), south on Route 750, then back to Route 778.

Route 854 – Alternating lane closures for paving and pavement marking from Route 11 to Route 1901, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion Dec. 20, 2014.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, cleaning unpaved ditches and tree removal. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Exit 251, northbound and southbound – On- and off-ramps restricted to 10-foot widths for overnight guardrail installation. Estimated project completion October 24.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 –on- and off-ramps at I-81 exit 251 restricted to 10-foot widths for overnight guardrail installation. Estimated project completion Oct. 24, 2014.

Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Eastbound shoulder and lane closures as needed between Route 726 (Stone Spring Road) and Route 710 (Ridgedale Road) for turn lane construction at Stone Port Development.  Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion October 2014.

Route 253 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 682 (Frieden’s Church Road, Mount Crawford) – Flagger controlled lane closures for soil and rock test borings for future bridge and road improvements in the area of Wal-Mart Distribution Center Drive including Creekside Drive, North River Road and Frieden’s Church Road. October 7 to October 17, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 726 (Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue) – Motorists should be alert for traffic-pattern changes, shoulder closures and occasional flagger controlled lane closures related to the Route 280 Southeast Connector project. Work zone extends from 0.51 mile east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.15 mile west of city limits. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

(NEW) Route 736 (Swope Road) – Partial road closure Monday, October 6, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. from Route 913 (Mole Hill Road) to Route 701 (Silver Lake Road) for pipe repair in two places. Follow posted detours during morning closure.  Flagger-controlled traffic after 11 a.m. until project completion, approximately 4:30 p.m. Oct. 6.

Route 745 (Martin Miller Road) – Pipe work from Route 257 (Ottobine Road) to Route 744 (Dry Hollow Road). Periodic, short duration closures, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Follow posted detours.

(NEW) Route 753 (Kratzer Road) – Flagger traffic control at various locations for milling, paving, shoulder stone and line marking. Work zone from Harrisonburg City limits to Route 780. Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris and dead tree removal, cleaning paved ditches.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mile marker 280 to 273, southbound.  Nighttime left lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., for guardrail upgrades and shoulder paving. Estimated completion Jan. 15, 2015.

Mile Marker 282 to 280, southbound – Alternating lane closures for spot leveling operations.  Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion October 10.

Mile Marker 285 to 292, northbound – Alternating lane closures for spot leveling operations.  Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion October 10.

 (NEW) Mile marker 289 to 298, northbound and southbound –

Nighttime alternating lane closures Oct. 5 through Oct 9, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, for patching and paving in various locations.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 760 (Water Street) – Flagger controlled traffic from Route 1403 to 0.30 mile east for bridge replacement over Stony Creek. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion June 2015.

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris and brush removal. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 311 to 315, northbound and southbound –

Nighttime alternating lane closures Oct. 6 through Oct 9, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, for patching and paving in various locations.

Mile Marker 318 to 312, southbound – Alternating lane closures for paving operations. Saturday to Thursday 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Fridays 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Estimated completion October 31.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Line painting in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Estimated completion October 30.

Route 522 – Northbound shoulder closures for the installation of fiber optic conduit between Route 679 and the West Virginia Line.  Estimated completion is Oct. 17, 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 – Flagger traffic control at intersection to Route 657 (Senseny Road) for turn-lane construction.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.  Estimated completion end of October 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

Mile marker 0 to 15, westbound and eastbound – Be alert for debris removal and cleaning paved ditches.  Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures reported.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – New traffic pattern with lane shifts on north and south ends of the bridge replacement project over Gooney Creek. Work zone from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605. Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2015.

Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road), from Duck Street to 17th Street – Old South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road) and 340/522.  Possible lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and nightly lane closures from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday. Additional lane shift and closure of center turn lane from the south end of the bridge to just past 17th Street and closure of 18th Street to through traffic. Through traffic will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street. Lane shifts on Route 55 just west of Route 340/522. These changes will be in effect through summer 2015.  Estimated bridge completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 603 (Oregon Hollow Road) – Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for reconstruction of Route 603 from Route 647 (Dismal Hollow Road) to 0.5 miles north. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Traffic using new bridge over South Fork of Shenandoah River. Flagging operations Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Work zone from Route 628 to 0.35 miles north. Estimated completion October 17, 2014.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
