Staunton VDOT District Traffic Alert: May 18-22

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 16.56 to 9.6, westbound – Milling, paving and pavement marking operations. Sunday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., but could periodically extend to 24/7 operations. Estimated completion November 2015.

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for lane closures for pothole patching.  Monday throughFriday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal, clearing sign areas, replacing object markers, cleaning bridge ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 60 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 159 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 311 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Paving and patching  with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Pipe replacement and cleaning, ditching, patching and paving with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday,7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Patching with flagger traffic control. Mowing with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Flagger controlled lane closures for pavement treatment and pavement marking. Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Various roads – Patching, grading and pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Mowing with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal and cleaning paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 53.3 to 55.3, eastbound and westbound.  Eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge until late 2015 while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205.1, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, repairing mile marker signs, replacing object markers and cleaning paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 174 to 205.1, northbound and southbound – Be alert for lane closures for pothole patching.  Monday through Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. as needed.

Mile marker 175 to 195, northbound – Right shoulder closures at various locations for guardrail upgrades. 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.Sunday through Saturday. Estimated completion June 9, 2015.

Mile marker 200.6, southbound – Shoulder closures as needed for I-81 bridge maintenance work over Route 710 (Sterrett Road). Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion May 29, 2015.

Mile marker 205.1, exit 205, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures as needed for I-81 bridge maintenance work over Route 606 (Raphine Road).  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion May 29, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 252 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Patching and pothole with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 606 (Raphine Road at I-81exit 205) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for bridge maintenance work.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion May 29, 2015.

Route 638 (Muddy Lane) – Road closed for bridge replacement from 0.23 mile east of Route 632 (Hall Place Drive) to 0.15 west of Route 631 (Union School Road), May 11 to May 28.  Detours:  Northbound drivers will turn east onto Route 631 and then west onto Route 850 (West Midland Trail) back to Route 638.  Southbound drivers will turn east onto Route 850 (West Midland Trail) and then south onto Route 631 back to Route 638.

Route 710 (Sterrett Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for I-81 bridge maintenance work.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion May 29, 2015.

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation.  Patching, grading, pothole repairs, brush cutting, pipe replacement and cleaning with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Possible left or right shoulder closures for installation of underground conduit system in median. Monday to Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion September 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 205.1 to 237, northbound and southbound – Lane closures for mowing, Monday through Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Lane closures for pothole patching, Monday through Friday as needed, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 205.1 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert mowing and litter pickup, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and for crews removing debris, cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 209.2 – Right shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 671 (Alamo Chapel Road) bridge over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion May 29, 2015.

(NEW) Mile marker 214 to 215.5, northbound – Lane closures for asphalt patching, Wednesday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 216.2 – Shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 655 bridge over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion May 29, 2015.

(NEW) Mile marker 217 (Greenville/Mint Spring area), northbound and southbound  – Slow-roll lane closures Sunday, May 17, between 6:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. for installation of overhead utility lines crossing I-81 at mile marker 217.  Northbound slow-roll begins at mile marker 211. Southbound slow-roll begins at mile marker 219.  Flagging crews will control southbound interstate access at the on-ramps at exit 217.

Mile marker 219.9 – Shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 647 (Christians Creek Road) bridge over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion May 29, 2015.

(NEW) Mile marker 224 to 223, southbound – Lane closures for asphalt patching, Tuesday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 42 (Little Calf Pasture Highway) – Flagger-controlled traffic for shoulder and guardrail improvements from Route 254 in Buffalo Gap area to Route 685 at Craigsville. Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion June 26, 2015.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over Calfpasture River. Work zone is just east of Route 715 (Braley Pond Road).  Estimated project completion March 2016.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over White Oak Draft. Work zone is about 0.5 mile west of Route 728.  Estimated project completion Jan. 29, 2016.

(NEW) Route 256 – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed from Route 276  to Route 769 for paving.  Monday through Saturday.  Estimated completion May 29.

Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road-widening project between Route 636 and Route 635.

Route 340 – Right shoulder closures as needed at various locations for fiber optic installation from Route 11/Greenville to the Augusta/Rockingham County Line. Estimated completion May 31, 2015.

Route 340/635 Intersection– Lane shifts and shoulder closures for gas line installation on northbound shoulder.  Estimated completion October 23, 2015.

(UPDATE) Route 340 & Route 1512 (Gloucester Road, Stuarts Draft)Right lane and shoulder closures through May 22 for utility work.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 608 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Lane closures with flagger traffic control for intersection improvements at Route 648. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion May 31, 2015.

Route 612 (Quick’s Mill Road, Verona area) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed from Route 613 (Spring Hill Road) to Route 626 (Berry Farm Road) for paving.  Monday through Saturday.  Estimated completion May 18.

Route 620 (Newport Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed on Route 620 near Route 252 (Pisgah Road) for bridge work over Naked Creek.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion May 29, 2015.

Route 636 (Lifecore Drive) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road widening west of Route 285.

Route 647 (Christians Creek Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for bridge work over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion May 29, 2015.

Route 648 (Christians Creek Road) – Alternating lane closures with flaggers for intersection improvements at Route 648.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion May 31, 2015.

Route 655 (Walnut Hills Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for bridge repairs over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion May 29, 2015.

Route 671 (Alamo Chapel Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for bridge repairs over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion May 29, 2015.

Route 747, Mount Solon area – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed from Route 760 to Route 809 for paving operations.  Monday through Saturday.  Estimated completion May 18, weather permitting.
Route 801 (Hangers Mill Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) and Route 835 (Hotchkiss Road) for bridge replacement. Traffic will follow the posted detour. Local traffic will have access during construction. Estimated completion October 2015.

Route 994 (Dices Spring Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure and right shoulder closure as needed for bridge work over Naked Creek.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion May 29, 2015.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Pothole repairs as needed. Debris removal, Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 238, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures for bridge inspection at Route 990 (Imboden Road) overpass.  May 21, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 239, northbound and southbound – Single lane closures over North River for bridge inspection. May 19, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 240, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures for bridge inspection at Route 867 (North River Road) overpass.  May 21, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Exit 243 – Northbound lane closures as needed for repairs on ramp over I-81. Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Additional shoulder closures as needed Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion May 29, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 33, City of Harrisonburg  – Flagger controlled lane closures for bridge inspection over Norfolk Southern Railroad.  May 18, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 340 (Town of Elkton) – Periodic flagger-controlled lane closures for sidewalk and road improvements. Work zone from F Street to 0.18 miles south of East Street.  Monday through Friday.  Estimated completion Sept. 18, 2015.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 704 (Boyers Road) – Travel lane shift about 0.4 mile south of Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) due to earth-moving work for Southeast Connector project.  This traffic pattern will remain in place 24/7 until connector road opens.

(NEW) Route 815 (Hollow Road, Fulks Run area) – Road closed May 18 to June 18 between Route 612 and Route 814 for box culvert replacement over tributary to the North Fork of the Shenandoah River.  A “stop and proceed” detour will be in place 24/7 until work is complete.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Pothole repairs as needed.  Debris removal and ditch cleaning. Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange) –  northbound and southbound Be alert for construction activities at exit 310 interchange and intersection with Tasker Road and Hillandale Drive, as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Route 522, northboundTemporary lane closures between Winchester city limits and Route 739 (Fox Drive) for the installation of utilities in the median.  Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.  Estimated completion July 1, 2015.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange) Northbound right shoulder closures Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.31 miles north of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Estimated project completion May 2018.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 657 (Senseny Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving, shoulder work and pavement marking, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Work to begin at Clarke County line and move toward Greenwood intersection. Estimated completion May 28.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

Mile marker 0 to 15 – Pothole repairs as needed. Debris removal and shoulder repair.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mile marker 7, eastbound and westbound – Single lane closures for bridge work at Shenandoah River, Monday to Thursday with variable schedules of day and night work between 8 a.m. and 4 a.m. the following day. Estimated completion July1, 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81
No lane closures reported.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Lane shifts on north and south ends of the bridge replacement project over Gooney Creek. Access to Route 605 (Poor House Road) is temporarily closed. Follow posted detour signs. Work zone from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605. Estimated completion Oct. 2015.

Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue / Winchester Road), from Duck Street to 17th Street – South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road) and 340/522.  Additional lane shift and closure of center turn lane from the south end of the bridge to just past 17th Street and closure of 18th Street to through traffic. Through traffic will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street. Lane shifts on Route 55 just west of Route 340/522. These changes will be in effect through summer 2015.  Estimated bridge completion December 2017.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 605 (Poor House Road) – Road closure at intersection with Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) as part of the bridge construction over Gooney Creek. Closure remains in place until approximately late June when the new bridge opens to through traffic. Drivers who need access to Route 605 will detour onto Route 607 (Rocky Lane) east and Route 649 (Browntown Road) south to Route 605.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
