Staunton VDOT District Traffic Alert: June 1-5

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks.

The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 16.56 to 9.6, westbound – Milling, paving and pavement marking operations. Sunday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., but could periodically extend to 24/7 operations. Estimated completion November 2015.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for single lane closures for pothole patching Tuesdaythrough Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal, clearing sign areas, replacing object markers, cleaning bridge ditches and slopes. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 60 (near I-64 exit 16, Covington) – Overnight alternating lane closures, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. June 3 & 4, ending Friday June 5 at 5 a.m. – milling, paving and pavement marking operations.  Work zone is from intersection of Routes 60/220 to end of divided highway at Mallow Mall.

Route 60 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 159 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 259 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 311 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Pipe replacement and patching with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Patching with flagger traffic control. Mowing with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Patching with flagger traffic control. Mowing with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal and cleaning paved ditches (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), mowing and litter pickup (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.). Monday to Friday.

Mile marker 53.3 to 55.3, eastbound and westbound.  Eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge until late 2015 while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 173 to 205.1, northbound and southbound – Be alert for mowing and litter (Tuesday to Saturday), pickup, debris removal, repairing mile marker signs, replacing object markers and cleaning paved ditches. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 174 to 205.1, northbound and southbound – Single lane closures as needed for pothole patching and mowing, Tuesday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 185.9 to 195.3, northbound  – Alternating lane closures Sunday, May 31, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday, andJune 1 to June 5, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Shoulder-only closures Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. – Guardrail work and paving operations.  Estimated completion November 2015.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 205.1, exit 205, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures as needed for I-81 bridge maintenance over Route 606 (Raphine Road).  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion June 26, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 252 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing and street sweeping with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 606 (Raphine Road at I-81exit 205) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for bridge maintenance work.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion June 26, 2015.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation.  Pipe replacement, ditching, patching, grading and brush cleaning with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 250 – Shoulder repairs at various locations with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 640 (Bluegrass Valley Road) – Shoulder repairs from the intersection of Route 637 (Maple Sugar Road) to Route 250 with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Left or right shoulder closures, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday for installation of traffic-management system in the Afton Mountain area. Estimated completion September 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205.1 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 214 to 215.5 northbound and mile marker 224 to 223 southbound – Single lane closures as needed for milling and paving.  Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 216.4, northbound – Left lane closure as needed for utility work.  Sunday, May 31, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 42 (Little Calf Pasture Highway) – Flagger-controlled traffic for shoulder and guardrail improvements from Route 254 in Buffalo Gap area to Route 685 at Craigsville. Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion June 26, 2015.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over White Oak Draft. Work zone is about 0.5 mile west of Route 728.  Estimated project completion Jan. 29, 2016.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over Calfpasture River. Work zone is just east of Route 715 (Braley Pond Road).  Estimated project completion March 2016.

Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road-widening project between Route 636 and Route 635.

(UPDATE) Route 340 – Right shoulder closures at various locations for fiber optic installation from Route 11/Greenville to the Augusta/Rockingham County Line. Estimated completion June 12.

Route 340/635 Intersection– Lane shifts and shoulder closures for gas line installation on northbound shoulder.  Estimated completion Oct. 23, 2015.

(UPDATE) Route 340 & Route 1512 (Gloucester Road, Stuarts Draft)Right lane and shoulder closures through June 5 for utility work.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 620 (Pisgah Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed near Route 252 for bridge work over Naked Creek.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion June 26, 2015.

Route 636 (Lifecore Drive) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road widening west of Route 285.

Route 747 (Freemason Run Road) – Road closed through June 9 for bridge work between Route 758 (George Walton Road) and Route 731 (Natural Chimneys Road). Detour in place Monday through Thursday each week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Road will open nightly from Friday to Sunday each week. Detours: Drivers approaching from the south will turn east on Route 758, north on Route 756 and then west on Route 731 back onto Route 747. Drivers approaching from the north will turn east on Route 731, south on Route 756 and then west on Route 758 back onto Route 747.

Route 801 (Hangers Mill Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) and Route 835 (Hotchkiss Road) for bridge replacement. Traffic will follow the posted detour. Local traffic will have access during construction. Estimated completion October 2015.

(UPDATE) Route 994 (Dices Spring Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure and right shoulder closure as needed for bridge work over Naked Creek.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion June 26, 2015.

(NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound –Debris removal, cleaning paved ditches. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Exit 243 – Northbound lane closures as needed for repairs on ramp over I-81. Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Additional shoulder closures as needed Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion June 26, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.  

Route 340 (Town of Elkton) – Periodic flagger-controlled lane closures for sidewalk and road improvements. Work zone from F Street to 0.18 miles south of East Street.  Monday through Friday.  Estimated completion Sept. 18, 2015.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 679 (Pleasant Valley Road) – Road closed June 4 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for pipe replacements between Route 680 (Oak Ridge Road) and Route 276 (Cross Keys Road).  Detours: Traveling east on Route 679 (Pleasant Valley Road), turn left on Route 680 (Oak Ridge Road), then right on Route 253 (Port Republic Road), then right on Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) and travel south to the end of detour at Route 679/ 276 intersection. From Route 276 (Cross Keys Road), continue north to the Route 253 (Port Republic Road) intersection. Turn left on Route 253, then left onto Route 680 (Oak Ridge Road) and travel south to the end of detour at Route 680/679 intersection.

Route 704 (Boyers Road) – Travel lane shift about 0.4 mile south of Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) due to earth-moving work for Southeast Connector project.  This traffic pattern will remain in place 24/7 until connector road opens.

Route 815 (Hollow Road, Fulks Run area) – Road closed until June 18 between Route 612 and Route 814 for box culvert replacement over tributary to the North Fork of the Shenandoah River.  A “stop and proceed” detour will be in place 24/7 until work is complete.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and shoulder/fence/slope repairs. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

Route 263 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 685 (Barbershop Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving operations, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion date June 4.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Brush cutting, mowing and dust control.

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and catch basin cleaning. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Exit 310, northbound and southbound – Left shoulders (median side) closed from 0.51 miles south of Route 37 to 0.55 miles north of Route 37 as part of Exit 310 Interchange project.   

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange) –  northbound and southbound Be alert for construction activities at exit 310 interchange and intersection with Tasker Road (Route 642) and Hillandale Drive (Route 847), as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Route 522, northboundTemporary lane closures between Winchester city limits and Route 739 (Fox Drive) for the installation of utilities in the median.  Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.  Estimated completion July 1, 2015.

 

SECONDARY ROAD

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange)Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.44 miles south of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Estimated  project completion May 2018.

(NEW) Route 669 (Rest Church Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for paving, shoulder work and pavement marking June 15 – 23, 7 a.m.to 7 p.m.  Work zone from I-81south ramps for Rest Church Road from Route 11 (Martinsburg Pike) to Route 825 (Zachary Ann Lane) continuing to Route 661 (Welltown Road).

(NEW) Route 672 (Brucetown Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for paving, shoulder work and pavement marking June 18 – 30, 7 a.m.to 7 p.m.  Work zone from Route 667 (Rocky Ford Road) to Route 668 (Shady Creek Road).

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange) Northbound 24/7 right shoulder from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.31 miles north of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Estimated project completion May 2018.

(NEW) Various roads – Pipe cleaning, soft spot repair and mowing. Monday – Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

 

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 340, southbound –Flagger controlled alternating single lane and shoulder closures for utility work between Oakland Lane and West Virginia state line. June 1- 4, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 5, 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon – Estimated completion June 5.

Various roads – Mowing.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 601 (Blue Ridge Mountain Road) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge deck over Route 601. Lane width reduced to 12’ and height restriction of 13’ in place.  Work zone speed reduced to 30 mph.  Work zone is about 0.5 mile north and south of Route 605/601 intersection.  Estimated project completion August 1.

(NEW) Route 636 (Westwood Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for paving operations, shoulder stone and pavement marking operations June 8 – 12 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Work zone from Business Route 7 to intersection with Tim Whitacre Circle. Estimated completion date June 12.

Route 657 (Senseny Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure from Clarke County to Greenwood Road intersection for paving, shoulder work and pavement marking, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion June 10.

Various roads – Soft spot repair, Monday – Friday.

 

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

Mile marker 0 to 15 –Debris removal. Pothole repairs as needed.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mile marker 7, eastbound and westbound – Single lane closures for bridge work at Shenandoah River, Monday to Thursday with variable schedules of day and night work between 8 a.m. and 4 a.m. the following day. Estimated completion July1, 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81
No lane closures reported.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Lane shifts on north and south ends of the bridge replacement project over Gooney Creek. Access to Route 605 (Poor House Road) is temporarily closed. Follow posted detour signs. Work zone from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605. Estimated completion Oct. 2015.

Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue / Winchester Road), from Duck Street to 17th Street – South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road) and 340/522.  Additional lane shift and closure of center turn lane from the south end of the bridge to just past 17th Street and closure of 18th Street to through traffic. Through traffic will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street. Lane shifts on Route 55 just west of Route 340/522. These changes will be in effect through summer 2015.  Estimated bridge completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 605 (Poor House Road) – Road closure at intersection with Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) as part of the bridge construction over Gooney Creek. Closure remains in place until approximately late June when the new bridge opens to through traffic. Drivers who need access to Route 605 will detour onto Route 607 (Rocky Lane) east and Route 649 (Browntown Road) south to Route 605.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
