Staunton VDOT District Traffic Alert: Aug. 31-Sept. 4

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

(UPDATE) or (NEW) indicates a new entry or a revised entry since last week’s report.

 

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 0 (WV state line) to 2, westbound – Alternating lane closures for paving operations.  Days and times will vary between Sundays and Saturdays with some work scheduled overnight. September 1 through December 1.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 10, eastbound – Single lane closures for bridge work over Dunlap Creek and Route 159, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion September 18.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 18 to 21, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as needed for tree trimming.September 1 and 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Exit 21 – Shoulder closures as needed along on- and off-ramps for soil and drainage testing. August 31 through September 3, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing sign areas, cleaning ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 220 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 269 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation.  Tar and graveling, paving, ditching, pipe replacement and shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 969 (Selma-Low Moor Road) – Single lane closures from Westvaco Road to Winterberry Avenue for soil and drainage testing.  August 31 to September 3, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(NEW) Route 1101 (Winterberry Avenue) – Alternating single lane closures from Commerce Center Drive to Irvine Farm Road for soil and drainage testing. August 31 to September 3, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(NEW) Various roads – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for surface treatments at various locations. 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation.  Ditching and shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Patching with flagger traffic control. Mowing with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris and cleaning paved ditches, slopes and drop inlets.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 53.3 to 55.3, eastbound and westbound – Eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge until late 2015 while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews mowing storm water ponds, tree trimming, removing debris, clearing sign areas and cleaning paved ditches, slopes and drop inlets.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 60 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 252 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Patching, pipe replacement, brush cutting, tree removal, ditching and pothole repairs with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 220 – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement 0.7 mile south of Route 606 (Dry Branch Road).  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 250 – Flagger traffic control for shoulder repairs.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 629 (Straight Creek Road) – Ditching with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Patching with flagger traffic control.  Mowing with mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound –  Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing sign areas, cleaning paved ditches and drop inlets.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Exit 91, westboundOvernight closure of westbound on-ramp from Route 285 for milling and paving between 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, and 7 a.m. Wednesday, September 2. Detour north on Route 285, west on Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) and south on Interstate 81 back to I-64.

Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder closures Monday to Thursday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion Dec. 24, 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing sign areas, and cleaning paved ditches, bridge slopes and drop inlets.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 218, southbound – Lane closures as needed for bridge slope repair. September 1 and 2, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 227 to 236, northbound – Single lane closures for guardrail installation. Sunday from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. following morning and Monday through Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning. Right shoulder closure daily 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 228 to 230, southbound – Alternating single lane closures for bridge inspection over Middle River. Thursday from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on-ramps Monday toThursday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion Dec. 24, 2015.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over White Oak Draft. Work zone is about 0.5 mile west of Route 728.  Estimated project completion Jan. 29, 2016.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over Calfpasture River. Work zone is just east of Route 715 (Braley Pond Road).  Estimated project completion March 2016.

Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road-widening project between Route 636 and Route 635.

(UPDATE) Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) – Right lane closure on Route 340 southbound in Stuarts Draft for turn lane construction. August 31 to September 4, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion September 4.

Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) – Southbound lane closures as needed at intersection of Route 635 (Kindig Road) for pavement restoration. September 14, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 340 (Rosser Avenue, Waynesboro), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures Monday to Thursday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for installation of traffic-management system near I-64 on-ramps. Estimated completion Dec. 24, 2015.

Route 340/635 Intersection – Lane shifts and shoulder closures for gas line installation.  Estimated completion Oct. 23, 2015.

(UPDATE) Route 340 at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road, Stuarts Draft) – Right lane and shoulder closures at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road) through September 14 for utility work.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 608 (Tinkling Springs Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for improvements at Route 608/635 intersection.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion Dec. 15, 2015.

Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for  installation of traffic-management system near I-64 on-ramps. Estimated completion Dec. 24, 2015.

Route 635 (Augusta Farms Road/Ramsey Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for improvements at Route 608/635 intersection. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion Dec. 15, 2015.

Route 636 (Lifecore Drive) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road widening west of Route 285.

Route 675 (Broadhead School Road) – Road closed for bridge repairs between Route 919 (Old Providence Road) and Route 604 (McClures Mill Road) August 17 through September 4. Property owners can access properties on either side of the work zone. Through traffic will follow one of these posted detours: Drivers approaching from the west follow Route 604 north, Route 662 (Stover School Road) east and Route 11 (Lee-Jackson Highway) south back to Route 675.  Drivers approaching from the east will follow Route 675 east, Route 11 north, Route 662 west and Route 604 south back to Route 675.

(UPDATE) Route 693 (Cedar Green Road)Intermittent lane closures for utility installation between Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) and Route 704 (William Cousins Road).  Estimated completion September 30.

(NEW) Route 715 – Pilot truck controlled lane closure for paving at various locations.  August 31 and September 1, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 736 – Pilot truck controlled lane closure for paving at various locations.  Sept. 1 through 4, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 801 (Hangers Mill Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) and Route 835 (Hotchkiss Road) for bridge replacement. Traffic will follow the posted detour. Local traffic will have access during construction. Estimated completion October 2015.

(NEW) Various roads – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for surface treatments at various locations. 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, hand cleaning paved ditches and around pipes. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Route 33 Business (Town of Elkton) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for paving and pavement marking from Route 33 to Route 635. Monday through Friday. Estimated completion September 3.

Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) between Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) to Route 687 (Massanetta Springs Road) – Single lane closure westbound for water line installation.  Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30pm.  Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2015.

Route 340 (Town of Elkton) – Periodic flagger-controlled lane closures for sidewalk and road improvements.  New Terrace Avenue traffic pattern began July 19. All northbound traffic will be directed down E street to Route 340. Work zone from F Street to 0.18 miles south of East Street, Monday through Friday. Estimated completion Sept. 18, 2015.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 721 (Fellowship Road) – Bridge replacement 0.70 mile east of Route 11 (North Valley Pike) to 0.40 mile west of Route 717 (Indian Trail Road) with a temporary bridge and “stop and proceed” work zone. Estimated completion Sept. 14, 2015.

(NEW) Route 1013 – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for surface treatments at various locations between Route 704 to cul-de-sac. 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 211 – Intermittent single lane closures for pipe installation from Shenandoah County Line (Crisman Hollow Road) to 0.90 miles east.  August 31 to September 4 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 609 (Steam Hollow Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving operations, shoulder stone and pavement marking operations from Route 602 (Comer Town Road) to the dead end of Route 609.  7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion date September 4.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, crews repairing fences and cleaning slopes under bridges. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 265 to 275, northbound – Nighttime single lane closures for milling, paving and guardrail work at various locations.  August 31 to September 3, 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following morning.

(NEW) Mile marker 273.5, northbound – Nighttime left lane closure for drainage work. Sunday, August 30, 10 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following morning.

Mile marker 299, northbound and southbound at Warren county line – Shoulder closures as needed for bridge work at Cedar Creek.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Sept. 25, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 263 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Various Roads – Mowing, Monday to Thursday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 609 (South Hollingsworth Road), Woodstock area – pedestrian bridge just west of roadway closed until further notice for adjacent slope repair.

Route 691 (Dellinger Acres Road) Road closed between Route 717 (Liberty Furnace Road) and Route 705 (Buggy Ridge Road) for bridge replacement until September 11.  Detours:  Eastbound traffic will travel south on Route 717 (Liberty Furnace Road), then south on Route 611 (Supinlick Ridge Road), then east on Route 703 (Jerome Road) then north on Route 705 (Buggy Ridge Road) back to Route 691.  Westbound traffic will travel south on Route 705 (Buggy Ridge Road), then  west on Route 703 (Jerome Road), then north on Route 611 (Supinlick Ridge Road) then north on Route 717 (Liberty Furnace Road) back to Route 691.

Route 758 (Seven Fountains Road, Fort Valley area) – Road closure for bridge replacement over Passage Creek, 0.7 miles from southern intersection with Route 678 (Fort Valley Road). Local traffic can access properties north of bridge by approaching from northern intersection of Routes 758/678. Estimated completion May 2016.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

No lane closures reported.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, crews mowing bridge slopes, basins and ditches. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 310 to 311, northbound and southbound – Overnight left lanes closed from 10 p.m. on Sunday to 6 a.m. the following morning, and Monday through Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. Motorists should be alert for trucks entering and exiting the work zone. The right and left shoulders are closed 24/7 in this area. Estimated project completion May 2018.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 37, northboundRight shoulder closure of Route 522 off-ramp during construction of additional turn lane. Estimated completion Nov. 15, 2015.

Route 37, southboundOn- and off-ramps at Winchester Medical Center are closed for interchange reconstruction.  Southbound Route 37 drivers can use Route 50 to access the medical center. Estimated completion January 2016.

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange), northbound and southbound B alert for construction vehicles and related activities at exit 310 interchange and intersection with Tasker Road (Route 642) and Hillandale Drive (Route 847), as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Estimated project completion May 2018.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange),  Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.44 miles south of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project.  Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated  project completion May 2018.

Route 657 (Senseny Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving, shoulder work and pavement marking from East Cork Street to Route 779 (Country Club Circle), 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion September 4.

Route 657 (Senseny Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving, shoulder work and pavement marking from Route 807 (Meade Drive) to Route 656 (Greenwood Road), 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion September 4.

(NEW) Route 767 (Fox Drive) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving, shoulder work and pavement marking from Route 522 (North Frederick Pike) to Fort Braddock Court,  7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion date September 4.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange) – Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.31 miles north of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing, patching, brush cutting, pipe cleaning, shoulder work and ditching.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 601 (Blue Ridge Mountain Road, Mount Weather area) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge deck over Route 601. Lane width reduced to 12’ and height restriction of 13’ in place.  Work zone speed reduced to 30 mph.  Work zone is about 0.5 mile north and south of Route 605/601 intersection.  Estimated project completion October 1.

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

(UPDATE) Mile marker 0 to 15 – Debris removal. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 7, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures for bridge work at Shenandoah River, Monday to Thursday with variable schedules of day and night work between 8 a.m. and 4 a.m. the following day.  Estimated completion September 18.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 14, eastbound and westbound – Alternating single lane closures for bridge work over Route 638, Monday to Thursday with variable schedules of day and night work between 8 a.m. and 4 a.m. the following day.  Estimated completion September 18.

 

INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 299, northbound and southbound at Shenandoah county line – Shoulder closures as needed for Cedar Creek bridge work. Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Sept. 25, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection, and lane shift from 340/522 to Forest Hill Drive. Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Lane shifts on both sides of new bridge over Gooney Creek. Shoulder closures and occasional lane closures as needed. Work zone from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605. Estimated completion October 2015.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Lane shift and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection from north end of bridge to Duck Street. Lane shift and closure of center turn lane from south end of bridge to just south of 17thStreet. Through traffic using 18th Street will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street.  Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 840 (Water Plant Road) – Flagger controlled lane and shoulder closures as needed for repairs of I-81 bridges over Route 840.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Sept. 25, 2015.

Various roads – Mowing and ditching.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.

Traffic alerts and traveler information can be obtained by dialing 511 and at 511Virginia.org. For other assistance call the VDOT Customer Service Center 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Dial 1-800-FOR-ROAD(1-800-367-7623) from anywhere in the state to report road hazards, ask transportation questions, or get information related to Virginia’s roads.
