Staunton Rotary students attend conference

newspaperStudents from Lee High school and Fort Defiance High school were sponsored by the Staunton Rotary Club Rotary Youth Leadership Achievement Seminar at Virginia Tech.

These students learned about taking a broader vision of the impact of volunteerism, leadership and global commitment of Rotary as an internal organization. The students are selected by their peers in partnership with school leadership. Each student is selected as someone who exhibits leadership qualities and a wish to improve leadership skill.

The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Seminar continues to be an exceptional learning experience for eligible high school youth. A power packed leadership focused weekend is planned for students. They will hear exceptional speakers; meet college level student leaders in academics, sports, and community service. Students will have ongoing opportunities to interact with fellow attendees as they are engaged in workshops and participating in social activities. Miss Virginia is invited each year to share her platform with the students.

They strengthen their leadership skills through multiple workshops, inspirational speakers, participation ion “stop hunger now” a meal packaging service project and hearing about experience of several young adult leadership role models.

David Eiker from Lee High School won the speech contest and will present at the Rotary District Conference at the Homestead on March 15th
