stn libraryAre you a graphic designer trying to stay well versed in your design software? Want to learn web design? Trying to improve your skills in Microsoft Excel or PowerPoint? Want to learn how to better market your business online? The Staunton Public Library now has a way for cardholders to learn all of the above and hundreds of other things online through free access to Lynda.com.

Lynda.com helps anyone learn software, technology, creative, and business skills to achieve their personal and professional goals through video tutorials. Through Lynda.com, professional educators and recognized industry experts teach 3,500 different courses to people at all levels of learning in a given subject. With more than 144,000 instructional videos in its collection, it’s one of the largest online training companies. Popular Lynda.com courses this week include an overview of Excel, the essentials of WordPress, basics of JavaScript and an introduction to After Effects video effects and animation software. New courses are added monthly. In addition to videos, courses may also include practice files, closed captioning and text transcripts.

Lynda.com is one of the many of online subscription resources offered to Library cardholders. Most databases are available permanently from any computer, anywhere. Other electronic resources include Rosetta Stone (courses for 30 different languages), Zinio digital magazines, Heritage Quest (genealogy research), OverDrive (downloadable ebooks and audiobooks) and AtoZdatabases (business, marketing, and job search database).
