Staunton Music Guild to launch Dec. 1
Following a three-month series of exploratory and organizational meetings, a group of Staunton musicians, music-venue owners and music lovers will officially launch the Staunton Music Guild at a fundraising gala and membership drive, Tuesday, Dec. 1 at Shenandoah Pizza, 19 E. Beverley, Staunton.
The event will feature a number of the Valley’s most gifted musicians performing from 7-10 p.m. and give the public an opportunity to hear more about the guild’s mission.
Individuals and businesses interested in supporting the startup of the Guild will be able to become founding members that night with a $10 donation. Shenandoah Pizza owners John and Cheryl Huggins will also contribute 20 percent of the night’s proceeds to the new organization. There is no admission charge for the event.
Aimed at supporting the growth and performance of music in the area and establishing Staunton as an outstanding and unique musical destination, the Staunton Music Guild has already become active in local economic and cultural activities and sponsored its first free workshop, “Marketing for Musicians” on Nov. 18.
A number of Guild organizers provided entertainment for Staunton Downtown Development Association’s Friday Nights series in September and October, and performed at the launch of Staunton’s new Red Brick Arts and Culture District in October.
A public website and a series of educational, networking and community outreach events are in the works for 2010. For more information, visit the Staunton Music Guild on Facebook, http://www.facebook.com/StauntonMusicGuild.
