Christopher Luke Simmons, 36, was taken into custody around 7 a.m. Sunday morning, according to a release from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the scene of a disturbance in the 3300 block of Morris Mill Road at 9:16 p.m. Saturday, and arrived six minutes later to find that a male victim, whose name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin, had been shot.

Simmons left the scene and was witnessed jumping out of a vehicle on Berry Farm Road around 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

Simmons, armed with a handgun, was engaged by members of the ACSO’s SWAT and negotiations team before surrendering.
