Staunton District Traffic Alerts: March 28-April 1

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westboundLane closure Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for sweeping bridge decks and barrier walls.  Watch for crews removing debris at various locations and cleaning box culverts, drain pipes and ditches between mile markers 14 to 16.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Exit 27, eastbound and westboundCleaning around box culverts, drain pipes and ditches. Monday and Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Pothole repairs and shoulder repairs.  Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4 p.m.

Various roads – Shoulder repairs, pothole repairs, brush cutting and ditching. Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4 p.m.   

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY                                                                                                                   

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Lane closure Monday and Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for sweeping bridge decks. Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning paved ditches and drop inlets.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 53 to 55, eastbound and westbound – Single lane of traffic through Maury River bridges work zone.  Be alert for westbound travel lane shifts.  Speed limit is 55 miles per hour. Estimated project completion December 2016.

(UPDATE) Exit 56, eastboundDaily left lane closure to I-81 (mile marker 195) northbound and southbound for bridge work.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning paved ditches at various locations.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 60 (West 29th Street, Buena Vista) – Temporary shoulder closures as needed for sidewalk replacement, paving and guardrail from Alleghany Avenue to Beech Avenue.  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Various roads – Sweeping intersections and bridges, pothole patching and pipe replacement.  Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4 p.m.   

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 708 (Gilmore’s Mill Road) – Road closed at Cedar Creek bridge just east of Route 608 (Shafer Lane).  Detour using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway).  Bridge scheduled for replacement with fall 2016 completion.
Various roads
– Ditch and shoulder work, brush cutting, grading, tree removal, pipe replacement and pothole repairs. Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4 p.m.   

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 250, east of MontereyFlagger controlled traffic for brush cutting.  Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4 p.m.   

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 606 – Flagger controlled traffic south of Route 220 for pipe replacement.  Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4 p.m.   

Route 629 (Straight Creek Road) – Flagger controlled traffic for shoulder repairs at various locations.  Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4 p.m.   

Various roads – Pothole repairs, pipe replacement, and flagger controlled traffic for sweeping of intersections at various locations. Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4 p.m.   

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY  

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning bridge slopes, paved ditches and inlets . Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder closures Monday through Sunday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for installation of traffic-management system.  Estimated completion April 30.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, replacing object markers, cleaning paved ditches, box culverts and drain pipes at various locations.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 (Lee-Jackson Highway, Greenville), southbound Right shoulder closure for concrete repairs at Route 340 intersection.  March 29 – 31, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Shoulder closures Monday through Sunday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for installation of traffic-management system.  Estimated completion April 30.

Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) – Eastbound intermittent lane closure/lane shifts until April 1 from Staunton city limits to Route 1427 (Rowe Road) for gas line installation.

(UPDATE) Route 340 (Rosser Avenue, Waynesboro) – Shoulder closures Monday through Sunday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for installation of traffic-management system.  Estimated completion April 30.

Route 340 (Main Street, Waynesboro) – Road closed between Constitution Park and East Avenue for replacement of South River bridge. Through traffic will use Broad Street (Route 250) as detour route. Local traffic has access to all businesses and residences throughout the project. Estimated completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 620 (Pisgah Road) Flagger controlled lane closures for bridge work at Route 252.  Monday to Thursday,7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Estimated completion March 31.

(UPDATE Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue) – Shoulder closures Monday through Sunday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for installation of traffic-management system.  Estimated completion April 30.

Route 733 (Moffett Branch Road) – Closed for bridge replacement between Route 835 (Dudley Farm Road) and Route 734 (Hupman Road). Through traffic will follow posted detour route. Property owners will have access to homes and businesses on either side of work zone. Estimated completion April 19.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming.  Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Watch for crews removing debris, fence repair and cleaning ditches and drop inlets.  Pothole repairs as needed.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11(Lee Highway) – Shoulder closures and occasional lane closures for replacement of North River bridge, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Work zone from Route 694 to just north of Route 694 near Mount Crawford.  Estimated completion July 2017.

Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Periodic flagging for tree removal and pipe installation as part of intersection improvements at Route 340 (East Side Highway).  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Estimated project completion October 2016.

Route 340 (East Side Highway) – Periodic flagging for tree removal and pipe installation as part of intersection improvements at Route 253/659  (Port Republic Road). Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Estimated project completion October 2016.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 659 (Port Republic Road) – Periodic flagging for tree removal and pipe installation as part of intersection improvements at Route 340.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Estimated project completion October 2016.

(UPDATE) Route 704 (Cecil Wampler Road) – Flagger controlled, intermittent right shoulder and lane closures for installation of water lines. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Work zone between I81north and Route 679 (Pleasant Valley Road).  Estimated completion April 30.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming.  Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

INTERSTATE 81

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Various roads – Brush cutting.  Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Pipe cleaning, grading, pothole patching and brush cutting.  Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming.  Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

No lane closures reported.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 300 to 324 – Watch for crews removing debris, crack sealing operations.  Pothole repairs as needed.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mile marker 309 to 311, northbound and southbound – Right and left shoulders closed 24/7.  Speed limit of 60 miles per hour throughout the work zone until completion of the exit 310 construction project. Limited space for traffic to merge onto southbound I-81 due to shortened on-ramp.  Motorists should also be alert for trucks entering and exiting work zone.  Estimated project completion May 2018.

Mile marker 320, southbound – Truck parking lot at rest area closed for repaving. Estimated completion April 1.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 37, southboundOff-ramp at Winchester Medical Center closed for interchange reconstruction.  Southbound Route 37 drivers can use Route 50 to access the medical center.  Estimated completion April 29.

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange), northbound and southbound Be alert for construction activity at exit 310 interchange and intersections of Tasker Road (Route 642) and Hillandale Drive (Route 847). Part of interchange reconstruction scheduled for completion in May 2018.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange),  Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.44 miles south of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 interchange project.  Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange) – Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.31 miles north of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Various roads – Grading and pothole patching.  Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 7, eastbound – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for the installation of communication utilities from Shenandoah River to Loudoun County line.  Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion is April 8.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various Roads – Shoulder repairs, pothole patching and scraping.  Monday to Friday.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

Ramp to I-81, southbound  – Westbound lane and ramp to I-81 southbound will narrow during bridge deck repair project.  Monday through Friday.  Estimated completion April 15.

Mile marker 0 to 15 – Watch for crews removing debris. Pothole repairs as needed.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81
No lane closures reported.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection, and lane shift from 340/522 to Forest Hill Drive. Changes in effect through summer 2016 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

(NEW) Route 340 (Winchester Road, Front Royal area) – New traffic signal at Park and Ride entrance, 0.30 miles south of I-66. Scheduled to begin full operation by March 31.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road).  Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly.  Lane shift at 17th street and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection, placing all traffic on the newly constructed bridge. 18th street is open to traffic, with left turn restrictions until summer 2017.  Estimated project completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Utility tree trimming.  Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
