road work transportationThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 159 (Dunlap Creek Road) – Flagger-controlled traffic from Route 311 (Kanawha Trail) to Route 717 (Boone Road) for Dunlap Creek bridge maintenance. March 26-30 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and tree removal at various locations. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 610 (Bennettown Road) – Flagger-controlled traffic for Rural Rustic project with pipe replacements at various locations. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road) for Jackson River bridge replacement. Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.

Route 696 (Selma-Low Moor Road) – Occasional flagging operations as needed near Route 1101 (Winterberry Avenue) and I-64 for intersection improvements. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

(NEW) Route 850 (North Mountain Road) – Flagger-controlled traffic from Route 269 to Rockbridge County line for Simpson Creek bridge maintenance. March 26-30 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger-controlled traffic for brush cutting and tree removal at various locations. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Brush cutting and pothole repairs at various locations with mobile work zones. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 197-195, southbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for railing repairs at bridge over Route 716 and Mill Creek. March 26-30 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Flagger controlled lane closures for painting of Buffalo Creek bridge between Route 678 (Buffalo Bend Road) and Route 764 (Possum Hollow). March 25-31 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger-controlled traffic for ditching, tree removal, pothole repairs, litter pickup, brush cutting, pipe maintenance. Sweeping intersections with a mobile work zone. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 631 (Old Buena Vista Road) – Road closed March 26-27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day between Route 608 (South River Road) and Route 704 (Middle Road) for maintenance of railway crossing. Follow posted detours.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for ditching, tree removal, pothole repairs, patching, litter pickup, brush cutting, pipe maintenance. Grading and sweeping intersections at various locations with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 250 – Mobile work zone eastbound for tree trimming from Monterey to Bullpasture Mountain. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Street sweeping in the towns of Monterey, Bluegrass, and McDowell. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger-traffic control for pothole patching. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Exit 99, westbound – Right shoulder of off-ramp closed for shoulder repairs and ditch cleaning. March 27 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

(UPDATE) Exit 99, eastbound – Right shoulder closures on ramps to and from Route 250 for bridge maintenance. Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through April 19.

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 210-212, northbound – Overnight, alternating lane closures for railing repairs at bridge over Route 622. March 26-30 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 211-212, northbound – Right shoulder closed for slope repairs and ditch cleaning. March 28 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 222, northbound and southbound – Be alert for utility work in the median near I-64 interchange at Staunton. March 27-28 from 7 a.m.to 8 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 228-229, northbound – Overnight, alternating lane closures for railing repairs at Middle River bridge. March 26-30 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 250 (Three Notch Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures on ramps to and from eastbound I-64 for bridge maintenance. Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., through April 19.

(NEW) Route 254 – Flagger controlled lane closures for painting of Christians Creek bridge between Route 795 (Glover Circle) and Route 839 (Eureka Mill Road). March 25-31 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(NEW) Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) –Brief lane closures 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for flashing yellow arrow signal installations at these locations: March 26 at Indian Ridge Road (Route 657) intersection, March 27 at Windmill Square (Food Lion) intersection and March 28 at School Road (Route 9030) intersection.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 610 (Howardsville Turnpike) – Road closed to through traffic between Route 912 (Hodge Street) and Route 660 (Lake Road) for roadway and utility work. Route 912 and Route 660 will serve as detour routes through spring 2018. Residents and school buses will have access to Route 610 with flagger traffic control.

(UPDATE) Route 693 (Cedar Green Road) – Flagger traffic control for bridge inspection over CSX railway west of Staunton. March 28 from 8:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 731 – Flagger controlled lane closures for painting of North River bridge in Mount Solon area. March 25-31 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 742 (Willow Spout Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 744 (Leaport Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 744 (Leaport Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 616 (Morningside Drive) to Route 781 (Bald Rock Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 245-247, northbound and southbound – Possible shoulder closures for sign installations. March 26-29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 257 (Ottobine Road) – Signal-controlled single-lane traffic during bridge replacement. Vehicles limited to 13 feet in width. Estimated project completion December 2018.

Route 340 (East Side Highway) – Flagger traffic control for maintenance of bridge over Hawksbill Creek just south of Elkton. Through April 13 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 738 (Dry River Road, Bridgewater area) – Road closed to all traffic (including pedestrians and bicycles) south of Route 257 during bridge and intersection construction. Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion December 2018.

Route 780 (Lindale Road) – Road closed until April 13 between Route 780 (Shaver Mill Road) and Route 753 (Kratzer Road) for bridge replacement over Linville Creek. Follow posted detours.

Route 867 (North River Road) – Eastbound shoulder closures as needed for bridge work at Pleasant Run through March 30 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Watch for construction traffic entering/leaving work zone.

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 Business (West Main Street, Town of Stanley) – Occasional lane closures for sidewalk repairs between Church Avenue and Railroad Avenue through March 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 340 – Overnight flagger traffic control for shoulder widening and guardrail replacement between Luray town limits and Warren County line. Sunday-Thursday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through March 30.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 615 (Serenity Ridge Road) – Intermittent lane closures with flagging operations for Rural Rustic Road project from Route 615 (Egypt Bend Road) to dead end, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through April 30.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 268-270, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures for inspection of Caverns Road overpass bridge. March 26-27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 284-291, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures for inspection of two overpass bridges. March 27-28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Cedar Creek Bridge replacement between Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County and Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County. Traffic restricted to one lane in each direction and a width restriction of 10 feet 6 inches. Northbound traffic follows median crossovers to use southbound bridge. Work zone speed limit 35 miles an hour. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

Route 48/55 (Wardensville Pike/John Marshall Highway) – Flagger traffic control for bridge repairs over Cedar Creek at Frederick/Shenandoah county line through April 27 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 675 (Stoney Creek Road) – Road closed for bridge replacement at Stoney Creek in Columbia Furnace area, about five miles north of Edinburg and 0.33-mile south of Route 42 (Senedo Road). Follow posted detours. Estimated completion spring 2018.

Route 720 (Wissler Road), near Mount Jackson – Closed to through traffic at Meems Bottom covered bridge just west of Route 11.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger-controlled lane closures as needed. Daylight hours Monday – Friday.

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 316-318, northbound and southbound – Possible shoulder closures for sign installation. March 26-29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 – Flagger traffic control for pavement marking from Reliance Road to Winchester city limit. Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through April 8.

Route 48/55 (Wardensville Pike/John Marshall Highway) – Flagger traffic control for bridge repairs over Cedar Creek at Frederick/Shenandoah county line through April 27 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger-controlled lane closures as needed. Daylight hours Monday – Friday.

Route 11 – Cedar Creek Bridge replacement between Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County and Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County. Traffic restricted to one lane in each direction and a width restriction of 10 feet 6 inches. Northbound traffic follows median crossovers to use southbound bridge. Work zone speed limit 35 miles an hour. Estimated project completion fall 2018.

(NEW) Route 79 (Apple Mountain Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for inspection of I-66 overpass bridge. March 26 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Overnight guardrail replacement from Page/Warren county line to Route 619 (Rivermont Drive). March 28 to April 22, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 624 (Morgan Ford Road) – Occasional flagger-controlled traffic through June 2018 for work on approaches to new Shenandoah River bridge. Through trucks over 30 feet in length prohibited between Route 643 (Howellsville Road) and Route 661 (Fairground Road).

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger-controlled lane closures as needed. Daylight hours Monday – Friday.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
