road work transportationThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 6 to 7, eastbound – Right shoulder closed for guardrail work. July 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 15 to 9, westbound – Single lane closures as needed for pavement operations. July 17-27 including weekends, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 21 to 23, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closed for sign installations. July 16-27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 39 to 40, eastbound – Left lane closure and alternating shoulder closures for guardrail work. July 16 from 12 noon to 7 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for mowing and pavement patching at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed for Jackson River bridge replacement between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road). Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.

(NEW) Route 3605 (South Durant Road/West Jackson Street), Covington – Flagger traffic control for utility work between Totten Drive (Frontage Road 203) and South Byrd Avenue. July 12-19 from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 39 (Mountain Valley Road) – Flagger traffic control for pavement work from Route 220 (Sam Snead Highway) to Route 621 (McGuffin Road), weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through July 20.

Various roads – Mobile work zones for patching and tree cleanup at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 627 (Scotchtown Draft Road) – Lane closures at Route 629 (Deerfield Road) for bridge work over Stuart Run, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through August 7. Vehicles restricted to 10 feet in width.

(NEW) Route 678 (Indian Draft Road) – Flagger traffic control for pavement work from Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road) to Route 625 (River Road). Weekdays July 16-20 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 57 to 54, westbound – Alternating lane closures for paving operations between I-81 interchange and Maury River bridge. Through July 27 and will include weekend work. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 199 to 206, southbound – Right shoulder closure for guardrail work, July 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Right shoulder closed for sign installations between Augusta County line and Wachovian Way. July 18-19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 210 to 206, southbound – Overnight mobile right lane closures for pavement marker maintenance. July 17-19 from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 217 to 236, northbound and southbound – Overnight left lane and shoulder closures for guardrail work at various locations. July 16-23 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 218 to 220, northbound – Overnight single lane closures for barrier installation and sign installation. Exit 220 will remain open. July 15-17 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Mile marker 224 to 221, southbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for ramp extension work. Interchange ramps will remain open. Through August 1 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 224 to 227, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closed for sign installation. July 16-August 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 227 to 222, southbound – Overnight single lane closures with temporary ramp closures for milling, paving and pavement marking. Monday-Friday nights from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. July 16 through October 2018.

(NEW) Mile marker 231 to 236, northbound – Right shoulder closures for guardrail work. July 18-19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 234 to 236, northbound and southbound – Overnight lane closures for inspection of Route 256 overpass bridges at exit 235. July 16 from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Mile marker 237 to 231, southbound – Overnight single lane closures with temporary ramp closures for milling, paving and pavement marking. Monday-Friday nights from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through July 20.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 42 (Little Calf Pasture Highway) – Right lane and shoulder closed from Route 1130 (Village Lane) to Route 703 (Hewitt Road) for guardrail work. Through July 31 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) – Overnight alternating lane closures for pavement work from Route 657 (Indian Ridge Road) to Route 1512 (Gloucester Road). Through July 20 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 610 (Howardsville Turnpike) – Road closed to through traffic through summer 2018 between Route 912 (Hodge Street) and Route 660 (Lake Road) for roadway and utility work. Route 912 and Route 660 will serve as detour routes. Residents will have access to Route 610 with flagger traffic control.

Route 649 (Round Hill Drive) – Mobile lane closures for pavement marking from Route 643 (Augusta Farms Road) to Route 608 (Tinkling Spring Road). Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 662 – Mobile lane closures for pavement marking from Route 693 (Berry Moore Road) to Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway). Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 681 (Mount Hermon Road, Newport area) – Road closed through July 27 between Route 679 (Campbell Hollow Road) and Route 602 (Walkers Creek Road) for installation of culvert at tributary of Walkers Creek. Follow posted detour.

Route 697 (Old Greenville Road) – Mobile lane closures for pavement marking from Route 613 (Old Greenville Road) to Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway). Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 742 (Willow Spout Road) – Flagger-controlled lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 744 (Leaport Road). Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 744 (Leaport Road) – Flagger-controlled lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 616 (Morningside Drive) to Route 781 (Bald Rock Road). Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 753 (Nash Road) – Flagger traffic control for Rural Rustic Road project from Route 42 (Scenic Highway) to Route 910 (Wampler Lane). Through October 31 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Route 775 (Buttermilk Road) – Mobile lane closures for pavement marking from Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway) to Route 778 (Knightly Mill Road). Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 834 (Hickory Hill Road) – Mobile lane closures for pavement marking from Route 631 (Ladd Road) to Route 640 (Goose Creek Road). Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 33 (Town of Elkton) – Overnight lane closures for bridge work over Fifth Street and Norfolk Southern railway. Through July 27 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Route 42 (Warm Springs Pike) – Alternating lane closures for pavement work from Augusta County line to town of Bridgewater. July 18 to August 10 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 42 (Harpine Highway) – Alternating lane closures for pavement work from Route 753(Kratzer Road) to Route 859 (Jesse Bennett Way). Through August 3 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Route 42 (South Main Street, Timberville) – Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot truck for paving operations from Route 1513 to town limits. Weekdays through July 20 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 257 (Ottobine Road) – Signal-controlled single-lane traffic during bridge replacement at Dry Run. Vehicles limited to 13 feet in width. Estimated completion December 2018.

(UPDATE) Route 259 (Brocks Gap Road) – Alternating lane closures for pavement work from Route 921(Lairs Run Road) to West Virginia state line. Through August 3 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 340 (East Side Highway) – Flagger-controlled lane closures between Route 253 (Port Republic Road) and Route 955 (Jacksons Way) for bridge work over Madison Run. July 18-20 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation. Temporary signals control traffic across bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River, at Page county line near town of Shenandoah. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated completion November 2018.

Route 701 (Cooks Creek Road) – Right shoulder closures for pavement marking from Route 726 (Mount Clinton Pike) to Route 763 (Singers Glen Road) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through August 31.

Route 738 (Dry River Road, Bridgewater area) – Road closed to all traffic (including pedestrians and bicycles) south of Route 257 during bridge and intersection construction. Follow posted detour. Estimated completion December 2018.

(UPDATE) Route 815 (Third Hill Road) – Road closed through October for flood repairs in area of Route 817 (Genoa Road) near Fulks Run.

Route 867 (North River Road) – Road closed through fall 2018 for bridge replacement over Pleasant Run between Route 11 (Main Street) and Route 693 (Fairview Road). Follow posted detours.

Route 910 (Switchboard Road) – Right shoulder closures for pavement marking from Harrisonburg city line to Route 763 (Mount Clinton Pike) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through August 31.

Route 988 (Scholars Road) – Temporary causeway with 24/7 “Stop & Proceed” traffic pattern during Pleasant Run bridge replacement, through July 20. Work zone between Route 704 (Cecil Wampler Road) and Route 989 (Valley Branch Road).

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 211 – Alternating lane closures for paving from Route 340 to Route 611 (Kimball Road). Through July 20 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

(NEW) Route 211 Business (West Main Street, Luray) – Road closed July 16 to December 1 for replacement of bridge over Hawksbill Creek. Follow posted detours.

(UPDATE) Route 11 – Be alert for construction traffic between Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County and Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County as contractors remove old southbound bridge. Work zone speed limit 35 miles an hour.

Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) – Alternating lane closures for pavement work from Route 628 (Middle Road) to Route 622 (Clary Road). Through July 20 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for utility tree trimming. Monday to Friday during daylight hours.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
