Staunton District Traffic Alert: Feb. 29-March 4

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks.

The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westboundWatch for crews removing debris at various locations and cleaning box culverts, drain pipes and ditches between mile markers 14 to 16.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 16 to 17, eastbound and westboundLane closures as needed for overhead sign maintenance.  Monday to Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Pothole repairs, brush cutting and shoulder repairs.  Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4:30 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Shoulder repairs, pothole repairs and ditching.  Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4:30 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Shoulder repairs, pothole repairs, brush cutting and ditching. Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning paved ditches and drop inlets.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 45 to 46, eastbound – Right shoulder closure for slope repair work.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion March 15.

Mile marker 53 to 55, eastbound and westbound – Eastbound traffic will follow detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate.  Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing signs areas, cleaning around paved ditches and drop inlets at various locations.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 195 to 203, northbound – Overnight left lane or shoulder closures for sign installations. Tuesday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 60 (West 29th Street, Buena Vista) – Temporary shoulder closures as needed for sidewalk replacement, paving and guardrail from Alleghany Avenue to Beech Avenue.  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Various roads – Pothole repairs, pipe replacement and brush cutting.  Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4:30 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 708 (Gilmore’s Mill Road) – Road closed at Cedar Creek bridge just east of Route 608 (Shafer Lane). Detour using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway). Bridge scheduled for replacement with fall 2016 completion.
Various roads
– Brush cutting, pipe replacement and pothole repairs.  Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4:30 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 629 (Straight Creek Road) – Shoulder repairs and brush cutting at various locations.  Monday – Friday,8:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Route 642/640 (Bluegrass Valley Road) – Pothole patching at various locations.  Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Various roads – Pothole repairs at various locations. Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4:30 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning  bridge slopes, paved ditches and inlets. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Median and right shoulder closures Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for installation of traffic-management system.  Estimated completion March 19, 2016.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, replacing object markers, cleaning box culverts, drain pipes, paved ditches and drop inlets at various locations.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 222, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures for work on bridges over I-64 eastbound ramp. Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Estimated completion March 4.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11(Lee Highway) – Single lane closure between Laurel Hill Road and Dick Huff Lane for utility work. Flagger control during daylight hours. February 29, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on-ramps Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion March 19, 2016.

(UPDATE) Route 340 (Rosser Avenue, Waynesboro), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures. Shoulder closures Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion March 19, 2016.

Route 340 (Main Street, Waynesboro) – Road closed between Constitution Park and East Avenue for replacement of bridge over South River. Through traffic will use Broad Street (Route 250) as detour route. Local traffic will have access to all businesses and residences throughout the project. Estimated completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue) – Right shoulder closures near I-64 ramps Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system.  Estimated completion March 19, 2016.

Route 733 (Moffett Branch Road) – Closed for bridge replacement between Route 835 (Dudley Farm Road) and Route 734 (Hupman Road). Through traffic will follow posted detour route. Property owners will have access to homes and businesses on either side of work zone. Estimated completion April 19, 2016.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming.  Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Watch for crews removing debris, cleaning paved ditches and drop inlets.  Pothole repairs as needed.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11(Lee Highway) – Right shoulder closures and occasional lane closures for replacement of North River bridge near Mount Crawford. 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Work zone is from Route 694 to 0.4 miles north of Route 694. Estimated completion July 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 704 (Cecil Wampler Road) – Flagger controlled shoulder and northbound lane closures for water line installation. Weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Work zone is between Route 898 (Pleasants Drive) and Route 679 (Pleasant Valley Road). Estimated completion March 31.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 264 to 300 – Watch for crews removing debris and brush.  Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Single lane closure for bridge repairs over Smith Creek.  Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Work zone 0.8 mile to Route 1002 and 0.1 mile to Route 620.  Estimated completion March 11.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Brush cutting and pothole patching.  Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

No lane closures reported.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE)  Mile marker 300 to 324 – Watch for crews removing debris and trees, sign repairs and ditch cleaning. Pothole repairs as needed.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mile marker 309 to 311, northbound and southbound – Right and left shoulders closed 24/7. Speed limit of 60 miles per hour throughout the work zone until completion of the exit 310 construction project. Limited space for traffic to merge onto southbound I-81 due to shortened on-ramp. Motorists should also be alert for trucks entering and exiting work zone. Estimated project completion May 2018.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 37, southboundOn- and off-ramps at Winchester Medical Center closed for interchange reconstruction.  Southbound Route 37 drivers can use Route 50 to access the medical center. Estimated completion April 2016.

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange), northbound and southbound Be alert for construction activity at exit 310 interchange and intersections of Tasker Road (Route 642) and Hillandale Drive (Route 847). Part of interchange reconstruction scheduled for completion in May 2018.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange),  Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.44 miles south of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 interchange project.  Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange) – Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.31 miles north of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Various roads – Ditching, grading and  pothole patching.  Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 7, eastbound – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for the installation of communication utilities from Shenandoah River to Loudoun County line.  Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion is March 31.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 620 (Browntown Road, Boyce area) – Road closed from Route 340 (Lord Fairfax Highway) to Route 617 (Old Chapel Road) February 29, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for railroad crossing repair.  Detour:  Route 617 east to Route 255 west to Route 340 south to Route 620.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

(UPDATE)  Mile marker 0 to 15 – Watch for crews removing debris and ditch cleaning. Pothole repairs as needed.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81
No lane closures reported.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection, and lane shift from 340/522 to Forest Hill Drive. Changes in effect through summer 2016 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road).  Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly.  Lane shift at 17th street and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection, placing all traffic on the newly constructed bridge. 18th street is open to traffic, with left turn restrictions until summer 2017.  Estimated project completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
