Staunton District Traffic Alert: Dec. 21-25

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

VDOT will suspend most highway work zones during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays and lift lane closures on interstates and primary roads during the following dates and times:

  • Noon, Thursday, December 24, to noon, Monday, December 28, 2015
  • Noon, Thursday, December 31, to noon, Monday, January 4, 2016

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 0 to 16, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as needed for pothole patching, December 20, 8 a.m. to noon.  Mile marker 41 to 0 – Watch for crews removing debris and clearing drainage systems. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Various roads – Patching and brush cutting with flagger traffic control, weekdays, 8:30 to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 696 (Selma-Low Moor Road) – Lane closures between Route 1212 (Karnes Road) and Route 616 (Rich Patch Road) for soil testing. Shoulder restrictions on Route 1308 (Garland Road).  Rich Patch Road will be closed north of the intersection with Selma-Low Moor Road. Flagger traffic control 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.Estimated completion December 30.

(UPDATE) Various roads –Patching and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Additional pothole and shoulder repairs January 4 to 8.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder repairs, pipe replacement and ditching with flagger traffic control, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Additional pothole patching January 4 to 8.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Pipe replacement, shoulder repairs and ditching with flagger traffic control. Grading with a mobile operation, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Additional pothole repairs Jan. 4 to 8.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning paved ditches and drop inlets. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 53 to 55, eastbound and westbound – Eastbound traffic will follow detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing signs areas and clearing around drainage systems. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 174 to 191, northbound and southbound – Lane closures as needed December 20, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. for pothole patching.

(NEW) Mile marker 186, southboundLane closures January 4, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. for shoulder repairs. 

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 60 (West 29th Street, Buena Vista) – Temporary shoulder closures as needed for sidewalk replacement from Maury River bridge to Beech Avenue.  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Brush cutting, shoulder repairs, tree removal, pipe replacement, pothole repairs and pavement work with flagger traffic control. Weekdays,  8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 708 (Gilmore’s Mill Road) – Road closed at Cedar Creek bridge just east of Route 608 (Shafer Lane). Detour using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway). Bridge scheduled for replacement with fall 2016 completion.
(UPDATE) Various roads
– Brush cutting, shoulder repairs, tree removal, litter pickup, grading, pipe replacement, pothole repairs and pavement work with flagger traffic control. Weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 250 –Brush cutting at various locations including Jack Mountain and Shaws Ridge with flagger traffic control. January 4 to 8, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various roads –Tree trimming with flagger traffic control. Weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 629 (Straight Creek Road) – Flagger traffic control for shoulder repairs at various locations. Weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Route 642 (Bluegrass Valley Road) – Flagger traffic control for tree removal at various locations. Weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

(UPDATE) Route 678 (Bullpasture River Road) – Flagger traffic control for embankment repairs about 5 miles south of Route 250, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through December 23.

(UPDATE) Various roads –Tree trimming December 21 to January 1 with flagger traffic control. Weekdays,8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Additional pothole repairs with flaggers January 4 to 8.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, brush mowing, cleaning  bridge slopes, paved ditches and inlets.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder closures Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion February 17, 2016.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Exit 205, northbound – Be alert for crews cleaning ditches and drain pipes on the exit ramp.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, brush mowing, replacing object markers, cleaning drainage systems. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on-ramps Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion February 17, 2016.

Route 340 (Rosser Avenue, Waynesboro), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures. Shoulder closures Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion February 17, 2016.

(UPDATE) Route 340 at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road, Stuarts Draft) –Shoulder closures for utility work at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road). Estimated completion January 8.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on ramps Mondaythrough Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system.

(UPDATE) Route 693 (Cedar Green Road)Intermittent lane closures for utility work between Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) and Route 704 (William Cousins Road).  Estimated completion January 8.

(NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Watch for crews removing debris and cleaning paved ditches and pipes. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Pothole repairs as needed. Additional brush chipping January 5 to 7.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Right shoulder closures and occasional lane closures for bridge replacement project over North River. 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Work zone is 0.013 miles north of Route 694 to 0.39 miles north of Route 694.

(UPDATE) Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Single lane closure westbound for water line installation from Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) to Route 687 (Massanetta Springs Road). Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Estimated completion January 8.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 704 (Cecil Wampler Road) – Flagger controlled, intermittent right shoulder and northbound lane closures for installation of water lines. Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. 5 p.m.  Work zone is between 0.3 miles south of Route 988 (Early Road) and Route 679 (Pleasant Valley Road). Estimated completion January 8.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 264 to 300 – Watch for crews removing debris and cleaning paved ditches. Monday to Friday,7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Pothole repairs as needed.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Work resumes January 4 with right lane closures for bridge repairs over Smith Creek.  Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Work zone located 0.1 mile west of Route 620.  Estimated completion January 22, 2016.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 620 (Smith Creek Road, New Market area) – Southbound, single lane closure between Route 732 (Cardinal Road) and Route 737 (Cedar Lane) for soil testing. Flagger traffic control weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion January 8.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

No lane closures reported.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 300 to 324 – Watch for crews removing debris, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contractor mowing, Monday to Sunday. Pothole repairs as needed.

Mile marker 308 to 312, northbound and southbound – Reduced speed limit of 60 miles per hour in effect throughout the work zone until completion of the exit 310 construction project, estimated for May 2018.  Right and left shoulders closed 24/7.  Limited space for traffic to merge onto southbound I-81 due to shortened on-ramp. Motorists should also be alert for trucks entering and exiting work zone.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 37, southboundOn- and off-ramps at Winchester Medical Center closed for interchange reconstruction.  Southbound Route 37 drivers can use Route 50 to access the medical center. Estimated completion April 2016.

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange), northbound and southbound Be alert for construction vehicles and activities at exit 310 interchange and intersections of Tasker Road (Route 642) and Hillandale Drive (Route 847). Part of interchange reconstruction scheduled for completion in May 2018.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange),  Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.44 miles south of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 interchange project.  Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange) – Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.31 miles north of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

(UPDATE) Mile marker 0 to 15 – Watch for crews removing debris, removing brush and trees, cleaning paved ditches, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Mowing, December 21 to 23. Pothole repairs as needed.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection, and lane shift from 340/522 to Forest Hill Drive. Changes in effect through February 2016 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

(UPDATE) Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road). Possible northbound traffic-lane shifts at both ends of bridge during the week of January 4-8, 2016. Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection just north of bridge. Closure of center turn lane from south end of bridge to just south of 17th Street. Through traffic using 18th Street will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street. Estimated project completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
