Staunton DistrictThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64
No lane closures reported.

PRIMARY ROADS
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and pipe replacements. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed for Jackson River bridge replacement between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road). Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.
(NEW) Route 696 (Selma-Low Moor Road) – Flagger traffic control for inspection of bridge over CSX railway at Selma. December 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon.
Route 3605 (South Durant Road/West Jackson Street), Covington – Flagger traffic control for utility work between Totten Drive (Frontage Road 203) and South Byrd Avenue. Weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through December 2018.
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and pipe replacements. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 50 to 51, eastbound and westbound – Alternating lane closures for inspection of Route 60 overpass bridge (exit 50 interchange), December 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

INTERSTATE 81
(NEW) Mile marker 175 to 177, northbound and southbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for inspection of Route 11 overpass bridge (exit 175 interchange), December 11 from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Mile marker 181 to 184, northbound and southbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for inspection of Route 680 overpass bridge, 10 p.m. December 9 to 5 a.m. December 10.
(NEW) Mile marker 203 to 204, northbound – Overnight left lane closures for guardrail repairs, 8 p.m. December 13 to 6:30 a.m. December 14.

PRIMARY ROADS
(NEW) Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Mobile lane closures for pavement testing between Route 785 (Sam Houston Way) and Route 712 (Walucman Drive). December 13 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs and brush cutting. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

INTERSTATE 64
(UPDATE) Mile marker 87 to 86, westbound – Overnight right lane closures for bridge work over I-81, December 10-12 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
(NEW) Mile marker 87 to 99, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures for tree and brush removal. December 10-14 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
(UPDATE) Mile marker 93 to 96, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures for sign installation and maintenance, December 10-21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
(UPDATE) Mile marker 97 to 95, westbound – Overnight left lane closures for bridge work over railroad and South River. December 10-11 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
(UPDATE) Exit 99, westbound – Off-ramp to Route 250 closed for guardrail repair, December 10 from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.
(UPDATE) Mile marker 100 to 99, westbound – Nighttime left-lane closure for guardrail repair, 7 p.m. December 9 to 1 a.m. December 10.

INTERSTATE 81
(UPDATE) Mile marker 208 to 235, northbound – Daytime shoulder closures and nighttime lane closures for guardrail repair at various locations, December 10-11 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
(NEW) Mile marker 214 to 213, southbound – Slow-roll traffic control for utility work between off- and on-ramps at exit 213 (Greenville). Sunday, December 16 from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.
Mile marker 221 to 223, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closed 24/7 through February 28 for ramp extension work. Occasional lane closures possible during overnight hours. Interchange ramps remain open.
(NEW) Mile marker 230 to 216, southbound – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for guardrail repair at various locations, December 11-13 from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS
(NEW) Route 11 (Lee-Jackson Highway) – Slow-roll traffic control for utility work between Route 701 (Howardsville Road) and I-81 ramps. Sunday, December 16 from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.

SECONDARY ROADS
(UPDATE) Route 610 (Howardsville Turnpike) – Closed to through traffic between Route 608 (Cold Springs Road) and Route 887 (Vance Lane) for roadway improvements. Residents, school buses and emergency vehicles have access. All other traffic uses posted detour route. Detour lifted during weather-related closures on Route 633/634 (Patton Farm Road). Estimated project completion December 21.
(NEW) Route 876 (Hewitt Road) – Flagger traffic control for inspection of bridge over Buckingham Branch railway between Route 876 (Cattleman Road) and Route 876 (Swoope Road), December 13 from 12 noon and 4:30 p.m.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81
(NEW) Mile marker 248 to 250, northbound and southbound – Nighttime alternating lane closures for inspection of Route 720 overpass bridge, 10 p.m. December 10 to 1 a.m. December 11.

PRIMARY ROADS

SECONDARY ROADS
(UPDATE) Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation over South Fork Shenandoah River at Page County line. Occasional flagger traffic control with delays of up to 15 minutes, possibly including weekends. Temporary signal controls traffic during non-work hours. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated project completion late December 2018.
Route 650 (Power Dam Road) – Road closed through December 14 between Route 649 (Island Ford Road) and Route 650 (Three Springs Road) for bridge replacement over Stony Run. Follow posted detour route.

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS
(UPDATE) Route 211 – Single lane closures for pavement marking and shoulder work between Route 340 and Shenandoah County line, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through December 14.
Route 211 Business (West Main Street, Luray) – Road closed through June 2019 for replacement of Hawksbill Creek bridge. Follow posted detours.
(UPDATE) Route 340 Business (Stanley) – Flagger controlled traffic between Route 614 (Shuler Lane) and Route 636 (River Road) for bridge work over South Fork Shenandoah River, December 10-14 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS
(UPDATE) Route 602 (Maryland Avenue/East Point Road) – Bridge rehabilitation over South Fork Shenandoah River at Rockingham County line. (NEW) Route 37, northbound – Right shoulder closures for sign repairs in area of Route 11 ramps at Kernstown. December 10-14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 672 (Hopewell Road) – Flagger traffic control for maintenance of bridge over I-81 at Exit 321 (Clearbrook) December 10-21 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) – Alternating lane closures for inspection of Shenandoah River bridges between Route 603 (Castleman Road) and FR 709 (Parker Lane). December 11-12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for utility tree trimming. Monday to Friday during daylight hours.

WARREN COUNTY

(NEW) Mile marker 11 to 10, westbound – Right shoulder closures for guardrail maintenance. December 10-14 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
