Staunton District Traffic Alert: Aug. 6-10

road work transportationThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 14 to 16, eastbound and westbound – Single lane closures for inspection of bridges over Jackson River. August 6-7 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for mowing and pavement patching at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed for Jackson River bridge replacement between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road). Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.

Route 3605 (South Durant Road/West Jackson Street), Covington – Flagger traffic control for utility work between Totten Drive (Frontage Road 203) and South Byrd Avenue. Weekdays through December 2018 from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for mowing and pavement patching at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 39 – Mobile work zones with flagger traffic control for maintenance of pavement markers at various locations. August 10 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Various roads – Mobile work zones for patching and tree cleanup at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 627 (Scotchtown Draft Road) – Lane closures at Route 629 (Deerfield Road) for bridge work over Stuart Run, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through August 7. Vehicles restricted to 10 feet in width.

Route 678 (Indian Draft Road) – Flagger traffic control for pavement work from Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road) to Route 625 (River Road). Through August 17 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Various roads – Mobile work zones for tree cleanup at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

No lane closures reported.

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 176 to 181, northbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for milling and paving. Includes paving of exit 180 (Natural Bridge) on- and off-ramps. Ramps will remain open. Through September 7, Sunday to Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 183 to 181, southbound – Left shoulder closed for sign installations. Through August 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 39 – Mobile work zones with flagger traffic control for maintenance of pavement markers at various locations. August 9 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 42 – Mobile work zones with flagger traffic control for maintenance of pavement markers at various locations. August 9 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement and brush cutting. Mobile work zones for ditching, mowing and pavement patching. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 646 (Big Hill Road) – Road closed at intersection of Route 850 (Midland Trail) for pipe replacement. August 8 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

(NEW) Route 770 (Turnpike Road) – Road closed from Route 654 (Hayslette Road) to Route 652 (Lake Robertson Drive) for pipe replacement. August 7 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement and brush cutting. Mobile work zones for ditching, mowing and pavement patching. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 220 – Mobile work zones with flagger traffic control for maintenance of pavement markers at various locations. August 10 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 250 – Mobile work zones with flagger traffic control for maintenance of pavement markers at various locations. August 10 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for storm debris cleanup. Mobile work zones for mowing and ditching at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

No lane closures reported.

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 218 to 220, northbound – Overnight right lane closures for ramp extension work. Exit 220 will remain open. Through August 31 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 222 to 219 southbound – Overnight right lane closures for ramp extension work. Interchange ramps will remain open. Through September 30 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 222 to 227, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures for sign installation, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through August 10.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 222, southbound – Overnight single lane closures with temporary ramp closures for milling, paving and pavement marking. Monday-Friday nights from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through October 2018.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 42 (Buffalo Gap Highway/Parksburg Turnpke) – Alternating lane closures for pavement work from Route 725 (Whiskey Creek Road) to Route 688 (Old Parkersburg Turnpike). Through August 18 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 42 (Scenic Highway) – Alternating lane closures for pavement work from Route 738 (Roudabush Lane) to Route 829 (Clark Lane). Through August 10 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) – Alternating lane closures for pavement work from Route 42 (Scenic Highway) to Route 722 (Vinegar Hill Road). August 5-10 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 610 (Howardsville Turnpike) – Road closed to through traffic through summer 2018 between Route 912 (Hodge Street) and Route 660 (Lake Road) for roadway and utility work. Route 912 and Route 660 will serve as detour routes. Residents will have access to Route 610 with flagger traffic control.

Route 649 (Round Hill Drive) – Mobile lane closures for pavement marking from Route 643 (Augusta Farms Road) to Route 608 (Tinkling Spring Road). Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 662 – Mobile lane closures for pavement marking from Route 693 (Berry Moore Road) to Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway). Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 697 (Old Greenville Road) – Mobile lane closures for pavement marking from Route 613 (Old Greenville Road) to Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway). Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 726 (Dutch Hollow Road, Newport area) – Road closed through August 17 between Route 252 (Middle Brook Road) and Route 620 (Newport Road) for bridge replacement over Otts Creek. Residents will have access to homes on either side of work zone. Through traffic follows posted detour.

Route 742 (Willow Spout Road) – Flagger-controlled lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 744 (Leaport Road). Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 744 (Leaport Road) – Flagger-controlled lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 616 (Morningside Drive) to Route 781 (Bald Rock Road). Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 753 (Nash Road) – Flagger traffic control for Rural Rustic Road project from Route 42 (Scenic Highway) to Route 910 (Wampler Lane). Through October 31 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Route 775 (Buttermilk Road) – Mobile lane closures for pavement marking from Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway) to Route 778 (Knightly Mill Road). Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 834 (Hickory Hill Road) – Mobile lane closures for pavement marking from Route 631 (Ladd Road) to Route 640 (Goose Creek Road). Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 853 (Poor Creek Road) – Right shoulder closure for marking from Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway) to dead end. Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 245, northbound and southbound – Southbound left lane closure and northbound left shoulder closure for soil work, 8 p.m. August 8 to 7 a.m. August 9.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 245 to 247, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures for sign installations. Through August 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Overnight single lane closures for bridge work over the South Fork of Shenandoah River. Through August 10 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(UPDATE) Route 33 (Town of Elkton) – Overnight lane closures for bridge work over Fifth Street and Norfolk Southern railway. Through August 17 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(UPDATE Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Right shoulder closures for sign installations between Route 624 (Mill Lane) and Route 644 (Mount Olivet Church Road/Resort Drive). Through August 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 42 (Warm Springs Pike) – Alternating lane closures for pavement work from Augusta County line to town of Bridgewater. Through August 10 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Overnight alternating lane closures for milling and paving from Harrisonburg City limits to Route 704 (Boyers Road). Sunday through Thursday nights 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through August 28.

Route 257 (Ottobine Road) – Signal-controlled single-lane traffic during bridge replacement at Dry Run. Vehicles limited to 13 feet in width. Estimated completion December 2018.

(UPDATE Route 340 (East Side Highway) – Flagger-controlled lane closures between Route 253 (Port Republic Road) and Route 955 (Jacksons Way) for bridge work over Madison Run. Through August 10 from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 340 (East Side Highway) – Alternating lane closures for pavement work from Robin Hill Drive (town of Elkton) to Page County line. Through August 17 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation. Temporary signals control traffic across bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River, at Page county line near town of Shenandoah. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated completion November 2018.

(NEW) Route 650 (Power Dam Road) – Road closed August 8 to October 10 for bridge replacement over Stony Run. Closure is between Route 649 (Island Ford Road) and Route 650 (Three Springs Road). Follow posted detours.

Route 701 (Cooks Creek Road) – Right shoulder closures for pavement marking from Route 726 (Mount Clinton Pike) to Route 763 (Singers Glen Road) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through August 31.

Route 738 (Dry River Road, Bridgewater area) – Road closed to all traffic (including pedestrians and bicycles) south of Route 257 during bridge and intersection construction. Follow posted detour. Estimated completion December 2018.

Route 910 (Switchboard Road) – Right shoulder closures for pavement marking from Harrisonburg city line to Route 763 (Mount Clinton Pike) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through August 31.

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 211 – Mobile alternating lane closures for paving operations from Route 340 to Route 611 (Kimball Road). August 6-10 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 211 – Mobile alternating lane closures for paving operations from Route 746 (Ganders Drive) to Route 644 (Big Oak Road). August 8-17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 211 – Mobile alternating lane closures for paving operations from Route 735 (Stonewall Lane) to end of four-lane highway. Through August 10 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 211 Business (West Main Street, Luray) – Road closed through December 1 for replacement of bridge over Hawksbill Creek. Follow posted detours.

Route 340 – Alternating lane closures for paving from Route 211 to Landfill Drive. Through August 11 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation. Flaggers or temporary signals control traffic on both sides of the bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River, at Rockingham County line near town of Shenandoah. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated completion of project November 2018.

Route 615 (Serenity Ridge Road) – Intermittent lane closures with flagging operations for Rural Rustic Road project from Route 615 (Egypt Bend Road) to dead end. Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 263 to 265, northbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for paving operations from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through August 15. Off-ramp at exit 264 closed August 6 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Detour using exit 257 to Route 11 north.

(NEW) Mile marker 274 to 276, northbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for paving operations, August 12-21 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Be alert for construction traffic between Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County and Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County as contractors remove old southbound bridge. Work zone speed limit 35 miles an hour.

(NEW) Various roads – Mobile work zones with flagger traffic control for line painting. 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 628 (Middle Road) – Flagger controlled traffic for pavement marking from Route 48/55 (John Marshall Highway) to Route 606 (Gap Road) through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 321 to 322, northbound and southbound – Overnight lane closures as needed for bridge work on Route 672 overpass bridge at exit 321 (Clearbrook). Through August 31 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 (Martinsburg Pike) – Overnight alternating lane closures for inspection of I-81 over pass bridge. 8 p.m. August 10 to 7 a.m. August 11.

Route 11 – Alternating lane closures for pavement marking from Winchester northern city limit to end of divided highway (2 miles north of Winchester). Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 37 – Alternating lane closures for inspection of ramp to Route 622. August 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 37 – Overnight mobile right lane and shoulder closures from Martinsburg Pike to Route 11 for soil and pavement testing. August 8-10 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Various roads – Mobile work zones with flagger traffic control for line painting. 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 628 (Middle Road) – Flagger controlled traffic southbound for slope repairs in area of Route 621 (Jones Road). Through August 10 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 634 (Cougill Road, Middletown) – Road closed through August 10 between Route 11 and Route 635 (Mineral Street) for the installation of water and sewer lines. Follow posted detour.

Route 649 (Springdale Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 648 (Passage Road) to Route 11 (Valley Pike). Through August 10 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 672 (Hopewell Road, Clearbrook) – Overnight single lane closures for maintenance of bridge over I-81, through August 31 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Various roads – Mobile work zones with flagger traffic control for line painting. 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
