Staunton District Traffic Alert: April 8-12

The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64
Mile marker 1 to 36, eastbound and westbound – Off-ramp shoulder closures at various interchanges for litter pickup, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. through April 12.
Mile marker 7 to 36, eastbound and westbound – Mobile lane closures for sweeping of bridge decks and barrier walls, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. through April 9.
(NEW) Mile marker 16 to 15, westbound – Alternating lane closures for maintenance of bridge over Jackson River and Route 18, April 8-12 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Mile marker 20 to 23, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures for sign installations, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through April 19.

PRIMARY ROADS
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and pipe replacements. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed for Jackson River bridge replacement between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road). Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.
Route 3605 (South Durant Road/West Jackson Street), Covington – Road closed 24/7 through June 2 between Thacker Avenue and South Byrd Avenue for slope remediation. Follow posted detours.
(UPDATE) Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacements and ditching operations at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

BATH COUNTY

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64
Mile marker 43 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Off-ramp shoulder closures for litter pickup at various interchanges, Through April 10 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Mile marker 43 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Mobile lane closures for sweeping bridge decks. Through April 9 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
(NEW) Mile marker 54 to 56, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closure for sign installation, April 8-12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

INTERSTATE 81
(UPDATE) Mile marker 174 to 188, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures for sign installations or repairs, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through April 19.
(UPDATE) Mile marker 175 to 205, northbound and southbound – Overnight left lane or right shoulder closures for guardrail repairs at various locations, April 8-12 from 3 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 176, southbound – Overnight mobile lane closures for bridge deck sweeping, April 8-17 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS
Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Northbound right lane closures for utility work from Northridge Lane to I-81 interchange. Through April 12 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Route 252 (Brownsburg Turnpike) – Flagger controlled traffic with a pilot truck for paving operations between Route 39 (Maury River Road) and Route 726 (New Providence Road), through April 19 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs and brush cutting. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS
(NEW) Route 631 (Old Buena Vista Road) – Right shoulder closures for sign installations from Route 703 (Stuartsburg Road) to Route 608 (South River Road). April 8-11 from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pothole patching, pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs and brush cutting. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

HIGHLAND COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64
(NEW) Mile marker 87 to 88, westbound – Overnight left lane and left shoulder closures for guardrail repairs, 8 p.m. April 9 to 7 a.m. April 10.
(NEW) Mile marker 87 to 99, eastbound and westbound – Overnight mobile alternating lane closures for bridge deck sweeping at various interchanges, April 8-12 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
(NEW) Mile marker 92 to 94, eastbound and westbound – Alternating lane and shoulder closures for bridge inspection, April 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 42 (Little Calf Pasture Highway) – Flagger controlled traffic for installation of pavement markers from Route 1130 (Village Lane) to Route 685 (Lehigh Road). April 8, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
(NEW) Route 250 (Shenandoah Mountain Drive) – Flagger traffic control for patching operations from Highland County line to Route 629 (Deerfield Valley Road), April 8-12 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS
(NEW) Route 608 (Long Meadow Road) – Road closed 24/7 April 8-19 for utility relocations between Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) and Route 741 (Fishersville Road). Follow posted detours.
(NEW) Route 612 – Alternating lane closures for pavement work at various locations between Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) and Route 865 (Rockfish Road). April 10-12 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
(NEW) Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road) – Mobile brush cutting operations from Old Laurel Hill Road to Moses Lane. April 8-12 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
(NEW) Route 613 (Spring Hill Road) – Mobile work zone for paving operations from Route 699 (Ridge Road Road) to Route 753 (Glade School Road), April 8-9 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
(NEW) Route 616 (Dam Town Road) – Road closed from Route 927 (Pine Top Road) to Route 608 (Battlefield Road) for pipe replacement April 10 -11, 7 a.m. to 3:30. Follow posted detours.
Route 616 (Dam Town Road) – Flagger traffic control for roadway improvements between Route 777 (Knightly Lane) and Route 926 (River Bend Drive), 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through May 3.
(UPDATE) Route 624 (Mount Torrey Road) – Flagger traffic control for soil testing at Back Creek bridge, Lyndhurst, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April 26.
Route 642 (Barren Ridge Road) – Alternating lane closures for Rural Rustic Road improvements between Route 795 (Saint James Road) and Route 254 (Hermitage Road), 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through April 19.
(UPDATE) Route 707 (Trimbles Mill Road) – Flagger traffic control for pipe installation between Route 705 (North Mountain Road) and Route 713 (Shuey Road). April 8-9 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Route 796 (Kiddsville Road, near Fishersville) – Road closed to through traffic through April 25 for culvert replacement between Route 795 (Entry School Road) and Route 608 (Long Meadow Road). Follow posted detours.
(NEW) Various roads (Verona area) – Grading operations on non-hard surface roads. April 8-12, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
(NEW) Various roads (Verona and Swoope areas) – Pothole patching at various locations. April 8-12, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81
(NEW) Mile Marker 237 to 263, northbound and southbound – Overnight mobile lane closures for bridge deck sweeping, April 5-7 from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
(NEW) Mile Marker 237 to 264, northbound – Be aware of crews in median or behind guardrails performing survey work. April 8-11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS
(NEW) Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Flagger controlled traffic for installation of pavement markers from Route 624 (Mill Lane) to Greene County line, April 11 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Route 33 (Rawley Pike) – Flagger traffic control for utility work between Route 732 (Coopers Mountain Road) and Route 613 (Whitmore Shop Road), 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through April 12.
(NEW) Route 42 (Bridgewater area) – Flagger controlled traffic for installation of pavement markers at various locations, April 8-10 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
(NEW) Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) – Flagger controlled traffic for installation of pavement markers from Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) to Augusta County line, April 11 from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 708 (Lynnwood Road) – Alternating lane closures for inspection of bridge over South Fork of Shenandoah River, April 9 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Route 921 (Lairs Run Road) – Westbound shoulder closure and occasional flagger traffic control for replacement of bridge over the North Fork Shenandoah River, just west of Route 259 (Brocks Gap Road). Estimated project completion September 2020.

PRIMARY ROADS
Route 211 Business (West Main Street, Luray) – Road closed through June 2019 for replacement of Hawksbill Creek bridge. Follow posted detours.
(NEW) Route 340 – Shoulder closures just north and south of Dry Run bridge for bridge maintenance. April 8-26, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 658 (Pass Run Road) – Stop-and-proceed traffic pattern for maintenance on Pass Run bridge just west of Route 340, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through April 12.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 267 to 268, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures as needed for maintenance of Route 767 overpass bridge, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April 19.
(NEW) Mile Marker 272 to 273, northbound and southbound – Overnight lane closures for maintenance of bridge over Mill Creek, April 8-10 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Route 758 (Woodstock Tower Road) – Closed between Stagecoach Road and Woodstock Tower for slope and roadway repairs. Motorists can access mountain from east approach (Fort Valley).
Route 767 (Quicksburg Road) – Flagger controlled traffic for maintenance of bridge over I-81. Through April 19 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81
(NEW) Mile maker 299 to 324, northbound and southbound – Overnight mobile lane closures for bridge deck sweeping, 9 p.m. April 6 to 7 a.m. April 7.
(NEW) Mile maker 319 to 317, southbound – Right shoulder closure for sign installations, April 8-26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS
(NEW) Route 11 (Middletown) – Asphalt work between Route 627 (Reliance Road) and First Street. April 2-26 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
(NEW) Route 50 (Millwood Pike) eastbound and westbound – Left lane and shoulder closures as needed for crossover construction project between Route 1092 (Independence Drive) and Route 723 (Carpers Valley Road). April 8-29, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Route 277 (Fairfax Pike, Stephens City) – Intermittent flagging and lane closures for utility/road widening work at Double Church Road intersection, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through October 1.
Route 522 (Front Royal Pike) – Occasional lane closures for utility work from Route 645 (Airport Road) to Route 776 (Bufflick) Road, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September 4.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 655 (Sulphur Springs Road) – Flagger controlled traffic as needed for roadway reconstruction between Route 50 (Millwood Pike) and Route 656 (Greenwood Road). Flagging may also take place on Route 656 near the intersection with Route 655. Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated project completion July 2020.
Route 723 (Carpers Valley Road/Old Winchester Road) – Road closed through November for replacement of bridge over Opequon Creek at Clarke County line. Follow posted detour.
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for utility tree trimming. Monday to Friday during daylight hours.

PRIMARY ROADS

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 723 (Carpers Valley Road/Old Winchester Road) – Road closed through November for replacement of bridge over Opequon Creek at Frederick County line. Follow posted detour.

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66
(NEW) Mile maker 0 to 15, eastbound and westbound– Overnight, mobile lane closures for bridge deck sweeping, 9 p.m. April 6 to 7 a.m. April 7.

INTERSTATE 81

PRIMARY ROADS
(NEW) Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Alternating 12 foot lane restrictions for road sweeping from Page County line to Route 619 (Rivermont Drive). April 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 607 (Rocky Lane) –Daytime flagger traffic control with occasional temporary road closures for Rural Rustic project between Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) and Route 649 (Browntown Road). Weekdays through late June.
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for utility tree trimming. Monday to Friday during daylight hours.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
