Staunton District Traffic Alert: April 2-6

road work transportationThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 7 to 6, westbound – Right lane closure for bridge work. April 3 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 16 to 19, eastbound and westbound – Possible shoulder closures for sign installations. April 3-27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 159 (Dunlap Creek Road) – Flagger-controlled traffic from Route 311 (Kanawha Trail) to Route 717 (Boone Road) for Dunlap Creek bridge maintenance. April 2-6 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and tree removal at various locations. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 610 (Bennettown Road) – Flagger-controlled traffic for Rural Rustic project with pipe replacements at various locations. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road) for Jackson River bridge replacement. Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.

Route 696 (Selma-Low Moor Road) – Occasional flagging operations as needed near Route 1101 (Winterberry Avenue) and I-64 for intersection improvements. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

Various roads – Flagger-controlled traffic for brush cutting and tree removal at various locations. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Patching, brush cutting and pothole repairs at various locations with mobile work zones. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 43 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Overnight mobile lane closures for bridge sweeping. April 3-6 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 176 to 205, northbound and southbound – Overnight mobile lane closures for bridge sweeping. April 3-6 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 197 to 195, southbound – Overnight lane closures for railing repairs at bridge over Route 716 and Mill Creek. April 2-6 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Flagger-controlled traffic for patching, pipe replacement, pot hole repairs and tree removal. Sweeping intersections with a mobile work zone. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Flagger traffic control for patching, ditching, pothole repairs, tree removal, sweeping intersections, grading and pipe replacement. Shoulder repairs and sweeping intersections at various locations with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Flagger-traffic control for brush cutting and pothole patching. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Overnight mobile lane closures for bridge sweeping. April 3-6 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Exit 99, eastbound – Right shoulder closures on ramps to and from Route 250 for bridge maintenance. Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through April 19.

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 206 to 237, northbound and southbound – Overnight mobile lane closures for bridge sweeping. April 3-6 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 210 to 212, northbound – Overnight lane closures for railing repairs at bridge over Route 622. April 2-6 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 228 to 229, northbound – Overnight lane closures for railing repairs at Middle River bridge. April 2-6 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 250 (Three Notch Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures on ramps to and from eastbound I-64 for bridge maintenance. Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., through April 19.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 610 (Howardsville Turnpike) – Road closed to through traffic between Route 912 (Hodge Street) and Route 660 (Lake Road) for roadway and utility work. Route 912 and Route 660 will serve as detour routes through spring 2018. Residents and school buses will have access to Route 610 with flagger traffic control.

Route 742 (Willow Spout Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 744 (Leaport Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 744 (Leaport Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 616 (Morningside Drive) to Route 781 (Bald Rock Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 243-251, southbound – Brief “slow roll” in Harrisonburg area for utility work over the interstate. April 8 for a 15-minute period between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 33 (East Market Street, Harrisonburg) – Lane closures as needed for inspection of Norfolk Southern railway bridges between I-81 and Martin Luther King Jr. Way. April 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 257 (Ottobine Road) – Signal-controlled single-lane traffic during bridge replacement. Vehicles limited to 13 feet in width. Estimated project completion December 2018.

Route 340 (East Side Highway) – Flagger traffic control for maintenance of bridge over Hawksbill Creek just south of Elkton. Through April 13 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 738 (Dry River Road, Bridgewater area) – Road closed to all traffic (including pedestrians and bicycles) south of Route 257 during bridge and intersection construction. Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion December 2018.

Route 780 (Lindale Road) – Road closed until April 13 between Route 780 (Shaver Mill Road) and Route 753 (Kratzer Road) for bridge replacement over Linville Creek. Follow posted detours.

(UPDATE) Route 867 (North River Road) – Eastbound shoulder closures as needed for bridge work at Pleasant Run through April 2-13 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Watch for construction traffic entering/leaving work zone.

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 340 – Overnight flagger traffic control for shoulder widening and guardrail replacement between Luray town limits and Warren County line. Sunday-Thursday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through April 29.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 615 (Serenity Ridge Road) – Intermittent lane closures with flagging operations for Rural Rustic Road project from Route 615 (Egypt Bend Road) to dead end, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through April 30.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures reported.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) – Brief lane closures for flashing yellow arrow signal installation at Route 825 (Hite Lane). April 5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 11 – Cedar Creek Bridge replacement between Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County and Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County. Traffic restricted to one lane in each direction and a width restriction of 10 feet 6 inches. Northbound traffic follows median crossovers to use southbound bridge. Work zone speed limit 35 miles an hour. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

Route 48/55 (Wardensville Pike/John Marshall Highway) – Flagger traffic control for bridge repairs over Cedar Creek at Frederick/Shenandoah county line through April 27 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 675 (Stoney Creek Road) – Road closed for bridge replacement at Stoney Creek in Columbia Furnace area, about five miles north of Edinburg and 0.33-mile south of Route 42 (Senedo Road). Follow posted detours. Estimated completion spring 2018.

Route 720 (Wissler Road), near Mount Jackson – Closed to through traffic at Meems Bottom covered bridge just west of Route 11.

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 315 to 323, northbound – Heavy congestion possible through April 4 due to bridge work just north of West Virginia state line. Right lane closure in place 24/7 at work zone. Consider alternate northbound routes including I-66 to Route 340, and Route 37 to Route 522.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 316-318, northbound and southbound – Possible shoulder closures for sign installation at exit 317, through April 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Flagger traffic control for pavement marking from Reliance Road to Winchester city limit. Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through April 8.

(NEW) Route 37, northbound and southbound – Alternating lane closures just west of Route 11 (Martinsburg Pike) for Winchester &Western railway bridge inspections. April 4 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Route 48/55 (Wardensville Pike/John Marshall Highway) – Flagger traffic control for bridge repairs over Cedar Creek at Frederick/Shenandoah county line through April 27 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 627 (Reliance Road) – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for sign installation April 2. Permanent restriction on through-trucks begins April 3 between I-81 exit 302 (Middletown) in Frederick County to Route 340/522 (Winchester Road) in Warren County. Truck drivers who need to access the Virginia Inland Port or other commercial and industrial sites can use Interstate 66 between I-81 and Route 340/522.

(NEW) Route 656 (Greenwood Avenue) – Brief lane closures for flashing yellow arrow signal installations: April 2 at Route 659 (Valley Mill Road) and April 4 at Route 657 (Senseny Road). 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

(NEW) Route 657 (Senseny Road) – Short duration lane closures for flashing yellow arrow installation April 3 at Route 656 (Greenwood Avenue) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

INTERSTATE 66

(UPDATE) Mile marker 5 to 8, eastbound and westbound – Possible shoulder closures for sign installation. April 2-27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Cedar Creek Bridge replacement between Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County and Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County. (UPDATE) Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Overnight guardrail replacement from Page/Warren county line to Route 619 (Rivermont Drive). Through April 29, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 624 (Morgan Ford Road) – Flagger-controlled traffic through June 2018 for paving and bridge work at Shenandoah River, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through June 1. Through trucks over 30 feet in length prohibited between Route 643 (Howellsville Road) and Route 661 (Fairground Road).

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
