gens-braves3Staunton benefitted from two Waynesboro errors in a sloppy third inning to score five runs, and that proved to be the difference for the Braves in a 10-6 win over the Generals on Monday night at Linco Park at Kate Collins Field.

Waynesboro got out on top 2-0 in the bottom of the first on RBI singles by Clayton Taylor and Jeremy Taylor. Staunton tied the game in the top of the second when Josh Smith scored on a wild pitch and Ryan Crile hit an RBI single.

The Braves broke it open in the third, breaking the tie on a Josh Smith RBI double, then getting a bases-loaded walk to Kevin Abraham, a Ryan Crile RBI single, before a pair of runs scored on errors on balls hit by Jack Schaaf and Jordan Howard.

The Generals chipped away in the middle innings, getting a run back on a fourth-inning RBI single by Kevin Phillips and another in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Gridley.

An error and a Crile RBI single added two more runs for Staunton in the seventh, and another run was tacked on in the eighth when Smith was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Waynesboro scored two in the bottom of the eighth, getting a sacrifice fly RBI from Jeremy Taylor and an RBI groundout by Ryan Gridley.

The Generals went down in order in the ninth.

Jamal Wilson (0-1) took the loss for Waynesboro, giving up seven runs (five earned) on five hits in two and a third innings, striking out three and walking three.

Walter Borkovich (2-0) earned the win for Staunton, giving up four runs on five hits in six innings, striking out four and walking one.
