Options besides foot travel are available to ensure that all guests are able to enjoy this year’s State Fair of Virginia.
“Accessibility for all of our fairgoers is very important to us,” said Pam Daneker, the fair’s operations manager. “We want everyone to enjoy all the Fair has to offer, so we are happy to provide several options.”
The Meadow Event Park has ample handicap parking, and guests who park in the general parking area may utilize parking lot trams to get to and from their vehicles. The Ford Tram Stops are designated with small tents and flags. Once inside the fair, guests may use guest service carts to travel between designated stops on a circular route on the north side of state Route 30.
“Most of the property used for the fair is relatively flat,” Daneker said. “The one path that runs behind Meadow Hall has a fairly gradual incline.”
A wheelchair, scooter and stroller rental vendor will be outside the fair Ticket Plaza. All rental items are available on a first come, first served basis and cannot be reserved. Guests also may bring their own strollers, wheelchairs and motorized scooters to the fair, and small wagons for transporting children are permitted as well. Recharging stations for electric scooters and cell phones will be located throughout the property.
There are three travel routes to The Meadow Event Park, which is in Caroline County. The most common is taking Interstate 95 to Exit 98 (Doswell) and traveling 1½ miles east on state Route 30. If traffic is heavy, drivers can take U.S. Route 301 to state Route 30 and travel about 3 miles west. The third option is to take U.S. Route 1 to state Route 30 and travel about 2 miles east. The Fair will communicate significant traffic delays on I-95 during the fair via Twitter.
This year’s State Fair of Virginia will open Sept. 26 and run through Oct. 5. Information is available at StateFairVa.org.
General admission includes access to all concerts, performances, exhibits and demonstrations but does not include rides. Ride tickets and single-day Unlimited Ride Wristbands will be available for purchase at Ride Ticket Booths in the Midway and Kidway areas. Requirements for rides and some attractions include height, weight and whether a child must be accompanied by an adult. Those requirements will be displayed at each ride and attraction, as well as at the Midway Customer Service booth.
Ride tickets are $1 each or $20 for 25. Individual rides require two to six tickets.
A single-day Unlimited Ride Wristband will be available for $21 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and $15 Monday through Thursday.

Parking at The Meadow Event Park is free.
The State Fair of Virginia is held each fall at its permanent home at The Meadow Event Park in Caroline County. The fair’s mission is to increase agricultural and natural resource awareness and interest through educational programs, exhibitions and competitions in a fun, family-friendly setting.
