yellow-computerVirginia House of Delegates Speaker William J. Howell (R-Stafford) announced Wednesday that the Division of Legislative Automated Systems, working with the House and Senate Clerk’s offices, has started the process of planning a fundamental redesign of the Legislative Information System website, lis.virginia.gov – the first major redesign in almost 20 years.

The Division of Legislative Automated Services will hold a series of user feedback sessions beginning today to solicit feedback and input from its diverse and wide array of users.

“The Legislative Information System website is a critical tool used by members of the General Assembly, legislative staff and the public to track and monitor legislation, the state budget and other legislative materials,” said Speaker Howell. “Providing easier and more convenient access to materials and documents legislators use is critical to ensuring greater transparency and accountability in government. The Division of Legislative Automated Systems is in the early phases of planning to substantially upgrade this invaluable resource and would like to receive feedback from users on how to make LIS more accessible and easy to use. I invite and encourage as many as possible to take advantage of this timely opportunity to contribute their feedback and promote more openness in government operations.”

DLAS will hold the first user feedback session today, January 28, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. For more information, please visit www.lis.virginia.gov and view the announcement located on the main page. DLAS reports to the General Assembly’s Joint Committee on Rules, which is chaired by Speaker Howell.
