SMAC swim team sets five team records in December meets

The Waynesboro Y year round competitive swim team, SMAC, (Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club) competed at the Mako Invitational in Fairfax, VA and at the TYR Capital Classic in Carey, NC from December 5-7.

The Mako Invitational consisted of teams from the Northern Virginia area and the TYR Capital Classic was comprised of YMCA Teams from Connecticut to South Carolina.   The meets were the final competition for the swimmers prior to Christmas and marks the midway point of the short course season.

Short course season (races swum in 25 yard pools) generally runs from September – April and the team focuses on a championship meet halfway through the season in December and another championship meet at the end of the season.

The Team sent 15 swimmers to the TYR Capital Classic meet and those swimmers swam to an amazing 46 lifetime best times.  The event, best time and USA time standard are listed below.

In addition to the best times and top finishes at the meet SMAC set 5 new team records.  Wagner broke the SMAC record in the 12 and under 400IM that was set by Jessie Arnold in 2010.  Rule set new SMAC records in the 200IM, 400IM, 100Back and 100 fly.  Her 100 fly also set a new State of Virginia record.

At the Mako Invitational SMAC brought 20 swimmers who swam to 62 lifetime best times.  The swimmer, event and time are recorded below.
