Elkton and Eastern Rockingham County has quickly and overwhelmingly created what some would call dynasties in high school girls basketball. Both East Rockingham High School and Spotswood High School have become regulars in the VHSL postseason play, and both have made a habit of running deep into the postseason.
This year coach Chris Dodson took his talented Spotswood Trailblazers to the coveted VHSL State Title.
Dodson, who has performed for years as a professional wrestler under the stage name “Coach” Chris Dodson, has used his notoriety to raise funds for many charities in the East Rockingham area. After coaching in the Virginia State Championship game, Dodson found himself needing to raise funds again. This time his girls needed help getting championship rings to celebrate their VHSL victory.
“I am proud of my girls and their accomplishment, but at $500 a piece these rings are just expensive,” says Dodson. “I reached out to the community to seek their support in helping the girls that represented them so well.”
Shenandoah Valley Championship Wrestling promoter Chris Marston is a long-time friend of Dodson, and on June 7th, they will team up to help these young ladies out.
“I am ecstatic to be able to coordinate this event to help Chrisin his efforts to raise money for his championship team,“ says Marston.
“For me, this event achieves victory on two different fronts. It allows me the opportunity to encourage families and supporters of high school athletes, all high school athletes to come out and celebrate the greatest accomplishment in Virginia High School Athletics. I also am able to help rebuild what was once a hotbed in professional wrestling, the Shenandoah Valley, returning the area to its once level of greatness,” Marston said.
The Shenandoah Valley Championship Wrestling event, Summer Brawl 2014, will emanate from Spotswood High School in Penn Laird, Va., on Saturday, June 7, with a 7:30 p.m. bell time. The event is the debut event for the SVCW. Fans will be treated to seven action-packed matches featuring “Coach” Chris Dodson himself, as well as former 2-time NWA National Heavyweight Champion Damien Wayne, the “Platinum Icon” Phil Brown, Pat Cusick, and many young stars that will become the nucleus of a new breed of professional wrestling in the area – Shenandoah Valley Championship Wrestling.
Partial proceeds from this event, all concessions and several drawings and raffles will be donated to the Lady Trailblazer Championship Ring Fund.
